I own a 2.5 P38 diesel and i am having a problem with the autobox. When i'm accelerating there are no problems, changes gear fine, but when i decelerate and let my foot off the pedal it seems to drop out of gear and will jump back into gear whilst still traveling.
Is this a common fault and what is the best way to repair?
2nd hand box
refurb the one i have

Might be a good idea to check you have some oil in the box.

and some clean oil at that

i have done an oil change since the problem started, so it's up to the max and fresh

Did you use the correct proceedure when re-filling? Box cold, engine idling, mover gear lever through all positions? If not it's short of oil. What colout was the old oil? If brown or black the box is shot.

When you changed the oil did you change the filter? could it be clogged?@

always check the fluid level with the engine idleing and in neutral else u get a false reading on the dipstick

the oil was red that i took out, no i never changed the filter, will try that next,
