Hi - I own a P38 which is 17 years old - 2.5l v6 (bmw engine) manual gearbox. I've owned the car for over 5 years. The radiator needs replacing, but for unknown reasons, the current radiator has the integrated oil sump which we have since found out is normally found on the v8 petrol auto engine. We believe the current radiator is the original and therefore would like to find out why there is a discrepancy with the radiator fitted as a search on our reg plate provides information for a radiator without the oil sump. Any information that anyone can provide would be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks.

The RAD has been replaced at some time and they all seem to come with the cooler in the bottom now I suppose for cheapness. I fitted a Nissens from Island 4 x 4 last year and it has the cooler, works fine.

OK thank you. The rad which was ordered using our reg plate doesn't have the cooler on it, hence the confusion. We have now ordered a new rad with the cooler so its a like for like replacement.

Make sure the new rad has the baffle fitted in the top.

Presumably if he is fitting a rad off a V8 the pipes are diagonally opposite rather than along the top so he'll be fine?

Mine's the manual (1995). The gearbox oil cooler pipes connect to a brass pipe that goes along the bottom of the rad.

I thought he said it was off a V8 and he was doing like for like?

All manual P38s have the transmission cooler in the radiator. Automatic has a separate cooler behind the N/S spot lamp position. After market suppliers seem now only to produce the manual rad which can be used on either version.

How was your holiday Tony? I heard on the news that there was a JD shortage in Benidorm.:) What do you think of the new site?
