Can you record a trace of the EDC fuelling to SD card and zip and attach the file? Idling while warm only.

What's the modulation and what mileage is yours on?

Wammers is almost certainly correct but hot-start might let you limp on for a but until funds/time allows. Mine has needed new chains for years now. :)
My modulation is 94 percent

Yeah, that's pretty bad.

Just out of interest, if the lift pump kicking out a good amount?

As in the in tank pump or the eas sorry. Thing is the motor sounds sweet. No knocks or rattles. And it appears that the injection pump on it was changed before the old car was scrapped. I'm. Only guessing but even an idiot would change the chains while changing the pump. So is there anything else that could be causing it? Maybe it hasn't been set up. Properly. As I say I'm only guessing but I'd of thought if the modulation was that far out due to chain stretch it would Atleast knock or run badly. And if doesn't.

In tank pump.

No need to touch the chains when doing the FIP. A locking tool holds the sprocket, 3 bolts and the FIP is out (with everything else removed, obviously).

Is it possible that the pump just needs to be set up though or is that just for idle

The FIP? Could be. Instructions are in RAVE for setting static timing for FIP. You'll need a dial guage and an adapter for the pump and possibly a socket to get the high pressure pipes loose.

Now that we know the FIP has been changed it is entirely possible it has not been fitted correctly. 94% modulation means the static timing is retarded. Static is set slightly advanced, this is the position the timing device defaults to when the engine is stopped and internal FIP pressure bleeds off ready for the next start.

OK ill look into the parts I need grrrr mentioned and get it up on rave and try setting it then. If not then I k ow the chains need doing

There's a thread somewhere of me asking and Wammers telling me how to do it and a link to the tools required on the Bay.

If the static needs setting, and you do it, hotstarting will be better. Mine runs really smooth since and pulls better at low rpm.

There you go.
It's a diesel. It's supposed to knock otherwise the timing is too retarded.

Yes. And I've always ran diesels. It still sounds like a tractor. It doesn't sound like a sports car. It sounds as a diesel should. There's no knocking or slapping from the chains is what I was clearly getting at.

Like I say. Its not running like a worn diesel. It's running perfect. But the hotstart issue and modulation issue I would bet is because the pump wasn't set up correctly after it was rebuilt. So I'm going to set the static timing before spending out on chains.

I have heard of others having issues after their pump has been "refurbished". There appear to be different levels of refurbishment judging from what I've heard. I used Diesel Jones down Nuttall Street in Manchester and have had no issues. Haven't heard of anyone else having issues with them either.

I have to admit I wouldn't even bother getting one refurbished. Id but new. I know it's a lot of money but it's peice if mind and alot of miles.
