I gave my old dse auto a bootful after some chav in a corsa was hard up my arse.
She dropped back to 2nd and pulled brilliantly foot to the floor into 3rd then.......
Tick tick tick slowing down wait no noise at tick over light throttle to hold pace still quiet.
Foot down tick tick tick....
Thinking great Iv just done some damage to a 30k mile lump pulled over and being a diesel there was a heap of soot around manifold port 6.

Blown gasket easy noticed with a torch.

Sounded 10x more expensive inside the motor tho

Hi Folks I have been trying to decide if I should rebuild the engine in my car or not bother ,I did a compression test on it today and the results were all eight cylinders were between 10 and 10.5 bar ,do you think these are acceptable figures or do I have a problem ?.
Could be a slipping cylinder liner, that will start making a "light" tapping noise and the more running you give the engine the noise increases, also noise can increase under load.

Are there liners in the diesel?

Next time don't try to outrun the chavs, slowdown, select highest gear then full throttle and choke the barsteward with black smoke.;):D

Yes but post#22 changed to dse. Pay attention, us old buggers tend to drift around like farts in a sewage farm.o_O
I thought I was paying attention, if you look at post#,3,7,9,11 you will note they are from the original poster, @boycie , they are speaking in respect of a p38 with 4.6 Thor, it is to that I refer.
I replied to @Grrrrrr 's question, thinking he may not be aware that the Thor is not a doozel, just trying to help ya know, maybe point out something I and many others have experienced and that no one had at that point yet mentioned.

I missed you were responding to the original post. I'd just read Stu's post so assumed it was a reply to that. All a bit higgledy-piggledy in here. So it is all @stustrong 's fault. Glad we sorted out the blame. :)

Hi Folks in answer to the post about the possible slipping liner, I really do not think that is the problem I had a Discovery with a slipping liner it was a lot louder and rhythmic it matched the speed of the engine .But there has been one development I was on U tube and a guy has put a video of his RR V8 engine on saying how nice it sounds ,well compared to mine it sounded like a bag of nails .My stethoscope should be here in a few days then I may be able to pinpoint the problem .
