My apologies, I have just had a play and I can now download maps, I have subscribed for a while now, and you used to only be able to view online or download the areas of paper maps you had bought....

Should have engaged brain before depressing mouth, or whatever that old saying is!! :D

No problems, a quick question for you, You say you are using the OS subscription to download the OS maps onto VR. How are you doing that?
I have the OS maps app and am a premium subscriber to it, so can download the 1:25K scale maps , but I do not know how to get them onto VR without paying more for them. Sounds like you know how to do it, any chance you can spill the beans? please.

Cheers

Sorry, I don't think I was very clear, the OS maps I have on ViewRanger were downloaded from VR, not from the OS app, I don't think it's possible to get the downloaded maps from OS app onto VR. I have literally just realised that it is possible to download maps on the OS app now.

There used to be ways that you could (a quick google suggests still is) take an image file and calibrate it as a map, but I don't think VR supports this, and it is a painstaking experience to make maps of any size. This is one I did years ago for an area we used to play that gave real time mapping on a hundred year old map.

@mojofilter

OK, thanks, Shame would have been nice to move them over to VR, I will continue to use OS Apps then.

But , you say you have OS subsrciption on VR, is this a yearly £20 fee as well that you pay to VR? allowing unlimited coverage to download? on 1:25K scale and 1:50K scale?

Cheers

No my subscription is to the OS, mainly used for Route planning on a laptop, but subsequently found could use on the OS app.

I paid one off fees to VR for chunks of 1:50k, I think about 8 quid each for Scotland West and Scotland NW and I paid a tenner for a load of credits (1000 maybe) to use for random tiles in Jan 14, I have most of my regular visits at 1:25k off of this and still appear to have 285 credits left, so I feel value isn't too bad.

Will definitely be looking better at the OS app now that I know I can download the maps.

I'm also quite fond of the Motion-X app, but no OS maps I'm afraid.

Just having a wee look at the OS app just now and the map tiles download easily, but route plotting is clunky in comparison to VR, and there doesn't appear to be the ability to save individual POI's or waypoints, I have no idea yet what it's like for track recording.

Yeah, I was trying to modify a route I was sent and it was a PITA, which is why was looking at VR as well as OS. Apparently they are always updating the OS system.

Track recording when i have done it appeared to be OK.

Cheers

You could use VR free or another app to edit your route using free maps then import back to OS I'd imagine. I can't remember if VR lets you split a route to edit it, being on a computer generally gives a lot more functionality for stuff like that.
