I can get a new pump for £30, however I've heard I might have to lift the engine out to fit it ? Or can I do it from underneath ?

drain the oil, drop the sump and it'll be starring you in the face - don't fit a cheap or used oil pump

got the haynes book beside me it reckons max revs no load is 4600 .... only time mine goes above 2500 is when the mot guy gets his greasy paws on it

not so sure that's correct ? - i tend to work on 4200, pointless reving it anything past 4000 as it's as flat as a pancake

treating it like it's got 16 valves is sure to doing some harm

And as soon as the rev counter needle passed the 4,500RPM mark the oil light came on! As soon as I changed grear and the needle went below 4,500RPM, the light flickered on and off a few times then went out completely.

I went back up to 4,500RPM again a few times to double check, and it happens all the time.

soon after i got my disco 200tdi off ebay stepson borrowed it , came back told me i shouldnt have bought it cos there was sumit wrong with it , wouldnt go over 4k revs in third.... never let him drive it since.... hes gutted that i get more mpg than his mondeo

Sounds like the oil pumps fooked but what about the pressure release valve and spring !!! could be a weak spring . how many miles the motors done ?

113,000 Miles.

Shouldnt be too bad then , either way the pumps got to come out and be checked anyway - if it looks fine , replace the spring etc .
