Right folks,
Old Series 3 laid up as a museum piece for a while, I received, smokey when running always. I tried filters, timing, fuel pump timing, butterfly valve, prayers. Overall it was running ok with power but just smoky as soon as the revs went up. I did have a thread on here but cant find it anymore.
I have sorted out timing as this was way off and still smokes and rotating the fuel pump didn't change much so on a punt I replaced 4 injectors thinking they would have sat idle for many years and would be the best part of 30 years old anyway.
Well I say replaced I just managed to get number 4 out this morning after much persuasion... for once of the moral kind. The sticker was oddly #4 (nearest to the front bulkhead) and its oily, considerably so and its the only one which is.
I assume this could be the source of my problems ?
Head off ? If so can I do that with the engine in place ? and what is the likely cause ? seal/valve ? something simple ?
I assume the last chap found similar as when he sold it I noticed the bolt was missing from the oil return pipe behind this injector with the bolt with a hole in it. I assume I am grasping at straws for thinking this may have flooded the injector area.
