I was surprised with the older cars how much of the haynes and the other brand manuals is a direct copy out of the factory manual- drawings and all, I would have them done for copywright for that!

I havnt got any that are newer than 95 so I dont know about the newer ones but with the early ones its nice they wernt printed on toilet paper!
 
I also never prime the newer rotary pumps just oil when rebuilding and never had a problem. I suspect it is the relief valve that is the issue or the pick up pipe.
The older gear pumps I take the distributor out and use a drill and DIY drive shaft I made, works every time and can pump oil all around the engine before starting..

go have a lot at the range rover one in halfrauds compared to the one you have it is not as indepth
