Cheers men, I crashed out after my Scran , bit of a week..

Several things ring alarm type bells.
20" wheels with very uneven tread at rear and front wheels that couldn't be balanced due to very low tread depth, do experience a bit of speed wobble through steering at times

4 wheel align couldn't be completed due to seized rear radius arm? Only slightly out on one wheel but could be something, it was NSR, needs removing / freeing up

Suspension needs calibrating as now sitting low in osr think my slanting drive upsets it

On the original test drive when i bought it, it was a bit wet and when we pulled out to the left there was a loud traction control type noise from front left which seemed excessive for the slow pull away as if the wheel was really struggling for grip

The service history is complete bullocks so need to check if diff recall done
Unlikely that diff oil ever changed.

Engine mounts seemed very sloppy when the box was out

Very rusty on all steel work under car including sub frames and suspension parts indicating use in floods maybe, came from rural North Yorkshire

Would switching off DSC help for a test?

Transmission reset seems interesting but not sure if that would have been forced by Phil swapping the valve block solenoids during the rebuild anyway

Definitely interested in diff oil and prop shaft bearings/ partially seized cv joints

Thank loony and Phil, no more oil leaks, gearbox is silky smooth, it was leaking at a rate of 1.5 litres per month and a constant nag that I was toasting my tranny, (that's not a sexual practice);)
I need to purchase my own oil well and try and get loony added onto my insurance..

Whilst you can turn the DSC 'off' it is not really 'off' just not as 'in control' as when on.

Goooooooogle the BMW DSC 5.7 ASC/ABS and you'll find loads about it on the BMW forums...

Sounds like your motor has had a troubled past...but it sounds like you are on top of it, and Engine Mounts are also a good call - never thought of those!

Thanks saint, I took it out tonight and just drove it rather than tried to make it vibrate and it wasn't bad. I did quite a few miles and only heard it a few times.
It seems to happen as it changes up into a higher gear, normally 4th.
As soon as the rev counter drops it vibrates, but only under light acceleration
I am also thinking about getting a fault mate to actually test what the LUC is up to.

It actually drove really well so I think it will be a case of new tyres when I can afford it, change the diff oil and see how it goes from there.
I also want to get the transfer box working which I think is the switch as nothing happens when I try and activate.

I think I will also talk to Sussex autos and see what they have to say about it.
Every forum I have read apart from maybe one, well two now, these symptoms have all been cured by replacing the torque converter.
 
Update - i have been rumble free for the last 3 journeys, although i am driving normally rather than trying to recreate the TC rumble, but i find now that rather than change up now dropping the revs very low when its under light load and incline, it seems to be changing down which feels more normal. i cant say its definitely cured but i think its improving as bemble said it might. i've got 3/4 tank of juice so i am going to reassess after thats gone... in about 25 miles:rolleyes:

i will do a basic summary of the whole project soon with some more pics and links, i dont think it will be in depth enough for a how to post but would round of the thread quite nicely as i hate it when you read on a forum of a problem that you have and get all the way to the end and there is no conclusion

i did question sussex autos about the recon on the TC and they assured me they are very confident in their repair but they did also mention a product called shudder fix they sell for persistent problems, link below to amazon reviews and also there is a thread on another range rover forum discussing it.

is Dr tranny the same as a tranny doctor ?

diff oil next, antifreeze, transfer box is totally dead, aircon condenser and tyres, mot next month - more tears before bedtime................

thought i would update an old post, well its a good few months since we finished this and pleased to say it is still completely rumble / vibration free. didnt use any shudder fix just drove it and it seemed to get better and better the more i used as Bemble said it would........:D
