I had the TD4 taken to a garage to see if they can find the problem
ive been having.. see this fred...

I must add, its not a L/Rover garage.. they did a full diagnostic test
and the MAF sensa fault came up.. and they cleared it (i replaced it
with a new one)

The guy told me today that the turbo is shot! he said its all gunged-up
and not working properly! also he said, the EGR needs replacing and
working again! (i removed the EGR valve)
I told him that i removed egr valve, and he said, well thats why the
turbos all gunged up!!

Shouldnt it be the other way round??..

I asked him if that would fix the problem, and he said, i dont know, we
can only try!

Anyway, a recon turbo £450, and a egr valve £?? his labour £??
and dont know for sure if thats it, or cures the problem?

Its a big gamble i dont want to take! having spent £800 already!!

What do ya think guys..
 
Well, seein as how he don't even know how the EGR works, I doubt he's qualified to diagnose a fooked turbo.
Take it to someone who's got a clue.

As long as its not completly seized you would think the engine would at least idle, so check if it turns freely by hand before spending 450 quids

Hey Chase.. i was sittin here just thinking that! the car was going
great, and had no symptoms of any kind of a faulty turbo?

Im beginning tu think there stabbin in the dark, cus they cant find
the fault!

Yeah, I wouldn't pay them any more money or let them near it again either. Even with a shot turbo, you'd still expect it to run smokily & he's talking absolute bull re the egr bypass. Also, did you not just only recently fit your bypass? Mine has been fitted for a few thousand miles now with no problems, besides the bypass blocks off the dirty exhaust gasses from the inlet side so wouldn't cause the turbo to gunge up.

Hi Chromi.. Yeah i did the bypass valve months ago, and it was
running great, didnt miss a beat!

I told him why i removed the egr.. he says it wants going back on to
run properly!

I reckon the best bet is to get the car back from him asap!
 
So sorry you've had such a crap time with your car, but you're right - this guy aint got any hope of helping you other than deplete your bank account.
I know you've probably done this but maybe another thread with a plea for a good garage in your area preferably from some of our more reliable members might be worth another go. I wish I could help, but this has got me stumped.

I cant help but keep thinking how good it was going.. start first turn
of the key, good exceleration un power ect..

Then.. just like ya run out of fuel, it comes to a halt? not to go again!

They should give you some pointers,

just a thought Greenie. You dint have any signs of an overcharging alternator? Just wondering if it's possible the ecu got spiked somehow.:confused:

Mmm.. odd

If the maf was faulty then by unplugging it the vehicle should start. Thats what makes me think that it's possibly the ecu.
 
Ha ha.. No i mean testing the ecu out!

Hmmm. might be one going cheap on ebay. I would say that it would be worth getting it plugged in on landrovers diagnostic. I know it's expensive but you don't seem to be going anywhere with it at the moment. You might be better just biting the bullet.

Yup. Get it checked out properly, and then pay someone cheaper to carry out the fix if you can’t do it yourself.

My mate had a turbo fail on his saab. He went round in circles with different advice from garages and recon specialists etc. There seems to be a lack of knowledge in turbo’s and diagnosing faults with them. He’s now broken the bottom end of his engine. Again he’s been advised all sorts from different garages. Currently he’s trying to rescue his motor from the current garage guesser.
