ok so i've just picked up the old range rover 2.5dt 1997 from the garage after the pump resealed. felt sluggist but thought it was parked up for 10 days so need the cobwebs blown out!, then i parked it up for the day and came back at 5 to go home. little bit of a hill so gave it a little welly and nothing!!! foot flat to the floor traveling at 2mph:eek: ok but sluggist on the flat
anyway it got better the warmer it got but feels like it's firing on 4 cylinders at times on the way home.

could it be the injector pump? although it was fine fueling wise before going in to the garage just leaked diesel so was sealed up. and i would have thought it would be the same hot or cold?

and it has a rattle when you first start from cold, i like tractors noise but not when it's coming from my lovely range rover;)

any ideas guys??

They either stuffed the pump or it ain't timed correctly. Take it back.

Yep, the people who "ovehauled" your FIP didn't know what they were doing, it was apparent from your earlier post that they were stringing you along.

i said has it been timed correctly and he said if it wasn't then it wouldn't run at all! it's never clattered on start up so i would say something isn't timed correctly.

The timing can be some way off I'm sure and it'll still run.
However - could be something simpler - they could have neglected to refit the MAP tube, or injector 4 etc.
Either way, I think its theirs to fix.

wammers has been a bit cold to me of late not sure he would;)

has mine got a MAF? and is it the little round thing thats sticks in a hole on the side of the air intake? seems to be really oily? and dosn't stay put always fallin out? :D

i'm gona take it back for the timing as it can't be doing any good clattering like that...sounds like the old diesel transits. not pleasant!!!

you guys are great by the way. first thing i said was landyzone guys will know!!!;)

hmmm, i am not up to date on MAF on the range but did have issues with the one on my CLK and my uncle had issues similar to you on his golf tdi, loss of power, running rough etc, could be, but definitely give it to them to sort and straight away too

He said MAP not MAF and don't be rude about my Transit:p I don't think yours has a MAF. Black smoke also suggests a fueling problem caused by timing or fuel quantity not set right, i.e. not calibrated. Shove it back at them.

bloody transits!! :p i don't want me rangey learning their bad habits thank you!!! cutting people up and hand gestures out the windows....:D

What do you mean. COLD. I'm always cold it's me age that does it. If it has a bad diesel knock that it did not have before, then i would normally say timing is out. But the pump has been stripped so it maybe a combination of both. If it smokes on acceleration then it is over fueling. Does it tick over at 750 rpm? If it does they must have done some callibration at least as the throttling is controlled by fuel quantity. The timing is supposed to be set at 0.90mm lift on cam at TDC. The fuel delivery quantity is controlled electronically, so is the the injection advance. But i think they do have to set a start point, maybe this what they said they cannot do and just made a guess. Think i would be taking it back. Obviously it is not acceptable as it is. If you pardon the French, they ****ed it up, let them sort it out.

yes wammers it ticks over at the second line i'm guessing around 666? it's always been there.

well he's said it's timed correctly:frusty:, could try fuel filter, air filter see it that helps with the lack of power. i think pushing would help more! and not sure that would help with the massive diesel knock it now has actually a knock i maybe able to live with but it sounds like a bag of hammer in the engine!!:D

so i've gone back to the guys i've used before. i only used this new guy coz i was recomended him by family!!! never again. he said straight away the timing is out, don't drive it too far till tuesday when it's booked in for. if he fixes it i'll be sending the bill to them to pay.

so the rangey is parked up and looking sad:mad: poor baby! may give him a clean and pamper.

If it did not have the diesel knock before it should not have it now. The BMW engine is indirect injection. There is a small chamber that the fuel burn starts in that is supposed to give even burn and stop diesel knock. I think it is timed wrong but there you go what do i know. The spill timing or start of injection timing is critical.

I know wammers that's why as soon as you said about the timing I didn't believe him about being correct and took it to someone else. You're wonderful wammers but thought you may have been sat on me doorstep by now with your tools!!!
