It does help Peter, it proves what I've bin saying fer years ....ANY JOB is A GOOD JOB

big sympathy..its a **** when it happens, but redundancy did provide me the cash to buy what I always wanted, yup,,, a Range Rover. Downside was most of the rest of redundancy went on fuel, tyres, air suspension, shock absorbers, brake discs, exhaust, air bags, blah blah blah over next 3 years..but still a brilliant motor, ( when I now get a new engine in !!!) but ebay is a good resource for a lot of RR "stuff"

good luck anyway going forward..running RWD only will not case major issues unless you go offroad stuff, and you'd be surprised even then what you can get through, 'cos you got enough ride clearance to be grounded by volcanic ash. I know so from chewing up a U/J on a boulder in the middle of nowhere. A quick spannering and i drove out like nothing changed in 2WD and for 3 months after due to financial embarrassment.

Hope all works out

How'd Tuesday go, Keith?

Tuesday went according to plan ( THE COMPANIES PLAN!!!)

Went like this.......................

Operations director stands on stage & says.............

"The people I call out please stand to the left .... those I don't call out please stand to the right"
"Ok, all those on the right, I'm afraid your employment is terminated from today"

3 guesses where I was stood !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH YEAH..... As far to the RIGHT AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!

So I drives the 150 miles back to Blackpool (the meeting was at East Midlands Airport) & off I goes into the good old Job Centre!!!!

Jesus H Christ!!!!!....it is me or WHAT!!!! the place was full of Losers, dossers & the very cream of humanity!!! arses hangin out of their trousers, hadn't washed fer a month & quite ready to "Kick Off" big style!!!!

And then theres ME.... Standing there in me Suite & Silk Tie with a briefcase in me hand .. Talk about being "OUT OF PLACE"........

So this Pimply faced 19 year old tells me I'll get the princely sum of £23.20 a day..... To which I reply ..... " WHATTT!!!!! I get more than that AN HOUR!!!!!!!....And he brings me back down to Earth with a bump by saying "NOT ANYMORE YOU DON'T!!"

So, ARSE to this... I'm going "Freelance" ....ANYONE want a heating system designed be it a 2000 bedroom hotel to a Garden Shed

I'M YER MAN!!!!!.............If yer boiler breaks down gimme a bell I still have hundreds of Engineers all over the UK that I can "Call a Favour" in on....

Spare Parts at less than Trade prices ... YOU WANT IT ... I'LL FIND IT..

£23.20 A DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....................... MY ARSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keith, I'm really sorry to hear it but good for you staying in the fight. 9 years ago the bank I worked for got bought out. I was given the option of a demeaning job in the new structure or I knew where the door was. It was basically a plan to rip-off my compensation (and that of 100s of others) because they could say they did try to re-absorb me and they couldn't be responsible if it was I who chose to leave. I did chose the door and after faffing around for a few months I eventually started to freelance, consulting and doing a bit of import-export trading. Now I have a small business with half-a-dozen employees and couldn't be happier. Not saying it wasn't a bit rocky at times but I'm still here.

For a salary-man, becoming your own boss can be a bit of an adventure and just the tonic! Good luck mate.

keep up the fight. Attitude and opportunity are what will get you through and to a large extent you have control over both. Nothing like a lay off to give you the balls to start your own business.
