Just been offered an almost brand new set of 235 55 19 109 rated tyres. Since I got my P38 6years ago, I've generally run with 255 55 18 or 19's. Just wondering about potential issues with running 20mm narrower tyres. We're they an option when new? Looking forward to feedback of your experiences.
Kind regards,
Mike.

Most important thing with tyres, make sure they're big enough to reach the ground :)
I think only 16 or 18 were standard options, 19s came with the L322, might be wrong
Do they fit your rims?

Cheers Kermit. I think that - so far - all my tyres have reached the ground.
BUT... what I'm asking is have 235 width tyres been offered as an OE variant, as well as 255's I've always run with.

They aren't just 20mm narrower. The profile is a percentage of the width, so less width is also less sidewall and a shorter tyre. They'd probably fit, but you'd need to check the rim width specs for a 235/55R19 as they may require a narrower rim.

Thanks very much.
I'll give them a miss. Hopefully the chart you've thoughtfully attached may help others too!

Can we go back to basics.
What size rim do you run:) do you have 2 sets of wheels?

Cos I is a little:confused: how you would run 19s on 18 rims;) or Vikki versus.

I have 16's with Insa Special Tracks, two sets of 18's and a set of 19's.
No magic at this end :~}

255/55R18 is very similar in diameter to 235/55R19 so wouldn't affect the speedo noticeably. Also similar to 255/65R16
The 19" is nearly an inch narrower than the 18"

I still have a MINT brand new 100% refurbished full set of 5 Vogue SE five stud P38 alloys with 18 inch Goodyear Efficiency grip tyres on them for sale if anyone out there wants a BARGAIN. 1 tyre is brand new and the other 4 have at least 6mm on them. New centre caps on them also. They were always intended for my own P38 but that never came off as planned so still here for sale. Better than brand new they are and in correct landrover sparkle silver colour. Will also fit Landrover discovery models too.
Space needed.

What size and £p?

Only 2 wheel sizes were ever homologated for the P38, 16" & 18", any other size is classed as a modification and you should inform your insurance company of the fact.
Plus the 275/45 R20's that Otto came on weighed around 28lb a corner more, ruined the handling and when he dropped onto the stops the wheelarches sat on the outer edge of the tyre, doing neither any good!
