just went to take her out and it wont even turn over she just moans ,i have checked the battery and it says it ok the green light comes on the charger saying it is in maintenance mode it is a 2 and a 1/4 petrol i dont now were to turn now any suggestion appreciated it has had a new starter solenoid a few months back
 
check all leads from the battery to solenoid and starter including earths are good ,short the two large terminals to check if issue is solenoiod or starter
 
Sorry to answer James's question, but yes on the solenoid. It will spark a little, but if engine turns over you know engine and starter motor are ok. So the prob will be the solenoid or the feed going to the solenoid. Hope this helps.
 
I did have a similar problem once it turned out to be a poor earth to the engine. There was an earth according to a test meter. I fixed mine by fitting a new earth strap between the engine and the battery box. Started like a dream afterwards

i have two earth straps on mine one from engine and one going to chassis the one fitted to engine is the one going to battery ,should i get them both joined together then attached to the battery . And thanks for you help on not starting i gave the starter motor a clout and it now starts so will have to get a new one soon thanks
 
First try turning on headlights check to see they light up bright, this proves battery is not failing under load.
Try starting engine even if stater fails to turn and after to two attemps feel all connections from battery to starter motor, any that are hot are possible high resistance and need cleaning.

Then make a test lamp, to make one connect an indicator bulb with two leads, put one end on battery negative terminal, and then check bulb lights bright at soleniod. Then disconnect lead at starter motor, connect this lead to test lamp and try to start motor, light should come on bright. this proves voltage and current is reaching starter motor.
It could still be a poor earth, so disconnect lead from negative lead from battery and connect to body of starter motor try to start again bulb should light bright.

Hope the above helps, if you fit croc clips to test lamp you can use as an emergency torch for future, when you breakdown.
 
See you fixed it while I was typing reply, thought you said you were no good with engines. I`d forgotten about the hit it fix.:clap2:
 
Why not take the starter motor off and give the shaft and pawl a good clean!

Generally, it the starter responds to a small amount of applied hammerology, that's all they need, so why make a big job out of a little one?

Simple!
