I’ve got a canny start with the chassis now
Did some setting out and makes some reference lines. I cut it on the straight by the box as I’m going to extend it there , I’m thinking by 20” at the minute

I the cut the back off in front of the rear spring seat and I’m using the section where it rises up as my overlap . Made a template and cut the sides out then welded 40mm box spacers between before the top and bottom strips went on, they fit over the the original chassis legs

used the original round crossmember and made new ones for the rest with new spring seats. I set the round crossmember and first spring seat up from the workshop manual. Then made a jig and repeated it for the second one.

I’ve done the brackets for the tank and mounted that just have the trailing arm mounts to do and some brackets. I’ll finish the back before I join it back together
And sorry I’ve no idea why the pictures always end up sideways

Picked a axle up last week. I’ve got the others stripped to rebuild in boxes. So before I pulled this down I used it to setup the trailing arm mounts. Made some templates out of ply first. Went on ok in the end after a bit fitting.

It was looking a bit tight to the spring seat. So I ended up moving them and the back seats back 25mm. I’m setting the axles up for 275.75r tyres. So now I have 150mm between tyres. But it should look ok

Bit of an update , got the front part of the chassis joined back together I added 15” in the middle. I made a couple of lengths of box up out of 3 mm to go inside the chassis legs then put some 2mm between and folded them insitu to bring it out flush and match it to the original chassis

I left the gearbox crossmember in until I got it all welded. I made up a couple of outriggers and got them on to match the body mounts I’ve made on the shell. The got it turned over and finished the welding underneath

still got some bits of brackets and suck to do for were I think the exhaust hangers will be and clean welds up. I cleaned the front of the chassis down and used aquasteel on it which seems great stuff. The it will all get a rust proof primer that Würth does. The just a satin black chassis paint. And heads up for a good one will be appreciated. On hols atm so not get anything done. But my heads running riot !
ps sorry I still can’t get the pics the right way up

I’m thinking about doing away either the A frame for the first rear axle and put A Panhard rod on it instead , so I have room over it for the prop to the second rear axle. I had a look on line and there’s kits for D2’s for that. would there be any issues doing that but leaving the A frame on the back one .

as l’ll set it up when the chassis is on it’s back to fabricate mounts etc?

Why not do panard rod set up a On both axles?
Only that 2 different set ups could conflict.

I thought D2 use a different set up?

It’s going to look great that. I’m wanting to keep the diffs on the same side. I’ll rotate the axle nose up slightly on the back axle and chance to overfill it slightly to keep the pinion bearing wet. I don’t want the prop coming off the axle in front it. So I don’t have sort of two lots of movement on that prop to worry about. I’m looking a picking the drive up with something just behind the transfer box then running the prop independently to the last axle through a centre carrier. That’s why I want to get rid of the A frame. However there’s nothing set in stone
