Hi guys so yesterday the prop came off the front diff. New bolt and seal done but a lot of play so need a diff. Now the wife did say it sounds like a bricks in a washing machine. And it sounds like this lifting the clutch up a bit.

As it happens I can spin the prop in the front diff
If by this you mean you can turn the propshaft flange at will with the wheels on the ground, then you could have stripped either the pinion or at least part of the crownwheel.
You may also have other damage in there, like you could have sheared the pinion Drain the oil and see how much metal comes out. But in the end, it'll need severely fixing or replacing.
Prolly easiest to get a secondhand axle.

If that's the case how did it drive there:confused:. (of course noting your comment wheels on the ground)
Unless somebody has been driving with the CDL locked without knowing;).

I've since edited my reply but essentially that would be interesting to know especially as so few D2s have a CDL fitted, actionable and working.;)

I'm beginning to wonder if he means he took the front prop off and then the rest happened.

The wife was driving and the a bang. She stopped couldn't see anything. Tried to drive off and nothing other than noise (grinding gear noise). I'm getting a front diff today so I hope to have it changed tonight

Ahhhh;).
Could be other things though, but you will find out when you take it apart to fit the diff;).

If you turn the diff flange with prop off and no wheels on the ground does either wheel turn?

And good luck with that time scale:eek::)

Hope that sorts it out.
Have you got the old one out to look at it yet?;)

If he gets moving before it comes and pulls the props,EDIT "Half shafts" he may do it. Easier on a D1 than a D2 though.
Hope he's got a good place to work in!!;)

So I've changed the diff and the technical term for it I would say is ****ed. The bearings have collapsed.
