Hi guys

Need some more help if poss!

This is for a 2005 Range Rover (2006 shape).

Basically when accelerating slowly the car will make a strange noise (a bit of a rubbing, or even light 'roaring' noise) which only occurs at certain speeds and also only occurs if accelerating!!

However, go past the point of the noise, take your foot off the accelerator and allow the speed to drop, and the sound does not comes back it when it gets back to the same speed where the noise appeared on the way up! So it makes the noise when accelerating, but not when 'rolling'. So basically makes the noise under load.

Going uphill slowly makes the noise much more apparent - but I guess it's under a harder load.

We called a specialist and they said that we should check the tyre wear and pressure because even if the fronts are a couple of mm lower than the rears the transmission will take over and try to compensate. Anyone heard that before??

So we're going to swap the wheels around and try that - but I'm not convinced to be honest!

Is there anything else you know of that logic would dictate it could be?

Thanks guys!

Hi, it sounds like the front diff or driveshaft splines have gone. This should have been rectified as part of a recall. Check your vehicle has had the modification and the driveshaft coupling replaced. Cheers Ian

Hi Ian

Thanks for the fast feedback!!

Assuming that Land Rover will be a pain and refuse the recall work, is it an expensive job to do?

We're trade, so most likely can do it in-house, but is it a massive/costly job?

Many thanks!

Hi Ian [again!]

Just thinking - can we call our local Land Rover dealership and ask them if it's been done?

It's not a local car, and in the past we've had issues that not all Land Rover dealerships are joined by the same network. For example, to trace servicing on a car you cannot just call any brand of Land Rover and ask for the full history unless it is the branch who actually did the work as they are not certrally networked (unlike Audi etc)...

So, I'm thinking that if the recall was done somewhere else, it may be impossible to know without knowing which brand of Land Rover may have done it??

Any ideas?

Also, anything else it could possibly be?

Many thanks
