RR p38 2.5 BMW DHSE 2001 Auto

Hi all.

May be starting with a problem , after having a oil and filter change in the auto gearbox ( Dexron 2 ATF ) i have now noticed a sort of scratching sound ( not very loud ) when pulling off in drive or reverse when revs are just picking up then it goes away also when warm there is no noise at all .

Oh, forgot to say that when old ATF oil was drained out it was quite clean with no bits or swaff if that is a word !! in the sump and the magnets were quite clean really .

Hope you can follow this, not sure if i can !!

Not noticed it before , has anyone got any idea what it could be .

Thanks

i had a scratching souns on my rr p38 i found that it stopped when i changed the oils in the diffs and transfer box runs smooth a silk now not even a sound

Yeah thanks , not done the transfer box yet as it was getting dark will do that in the morning. Just wondering if i cycled through the gears properly with engine running so may be a bit low on oil ?, will also check that as well The scratching sound starts just when it starts to take up drive then stops as it gets going and stops altogether when it has warmed up, but the sound is not loud and you have to listen for it .

Open the bonnet and let the cat out. :D:D

Don't worry, you're just paranoid, it's quite normal when you drive a Rangie.
You've done something to the car and now you're expecting something to go wrong because you've upset it. Do your transfer box, diffs and UJs then turn the stereo up a bit until you find something else to worry about. It won't be long.

Mine has a similar noise too. Mine's a sort of scratching whirring, like a grinding bearing perhaps. I've been trying to track down where it's coming from for ages now and I can't.

I've changed all fluids and greased everything, so I've put it down to either normal RR soundtrack, or my front diff is about to fail! It certainly seems to be coming from under the passenger footwell.

Mine does get worse under acceleration, and going up steep hills too.....

Luckily I've got the Harmon Kardon stereo so I just use that!

Will do that :lalala: but still going to check the auto box levels . Was going to do the T/Box today but it is snowing now , will use the Hyundai 4x4 next week for work
