I'm pretty sure that the gauges can be driven from Faultmate and the sensors can be read.

Sorry guys,not faultmate but autel maxidas. A local guy whose business is diagnostics,but evidently not RR :confused:
He was certain he could drive the gauges but machine would do no more than read the things mentioned.Don't think he could access BECM functions.
Bugger!!!!!!
Keep emptying the Nano pot, before it gets filled.:mad:

On the Nanocom subject,i e-mailed them yesterday and asked very nicely if there was any discount available for forum members,and had a very quick reply,which read:

the full cost of the Hawkeye for the P38 to include all relevant leads and
update leads.

Ask them which forums they do give discount on and join one of those until you get your discount. Yes Colin did get a bit of stick for some blatant advertising and product pushing on this forum. But he gets a lot of free recommendations now, because to be honest his stuff is good. So maybe he thinks he no longer needs to offer promotional discounts. He is a businessman out to make profit, that's the way it is, can't knock him for that, you or i would assess the situation and possibly do the same.

just had a look on the BBS site and it would seem that the guy who was here today was only able to read the edc inputs and nothing else.

Just going over to order 1 now, who needs food and lights anyway.I can sit in my car with the heater on playing with my new toy :D:D:D

Hi Dogsbody,spoke to Jim a couple of weeks ago and had agreed to go over on a Sunday but he did say at the time he was unsure of the procedures and had not been that far into the system,mainly been using it for basic code reading and resetting.

When i rang him on the Sunday to sort out a time his phone rang out and has done each time i have tried to get him since.

So,in a nutshell, after spending another 30 bucks on nothing today, and being unable to get a hold of Jim(i think he is hiding:D). I have just placed my order for a Nanocom Evo for the EDC p38. All in 30 bob under 400 quid,and i dont need to get stressed depending on other people to do what i can do myself now.;)

And if anyone with a diesel p38 reads this and is from a reasonable distance away,and you need some diagnostic help,i am available(well once it gets here).
 
Oh you won't regret it, it's a great bit of kit, and fun too. I've said before that I spent the first night just sat in the car making windows go up and down, lights go on and off etc.
Don't worry, the neighbours are used to me by now, I'm a Rangie driver !!

Latest update,
I have connected my new shiny Nanocom and had a fiddle with it and the results are:
Can only communicate with BECM with key in pos 2 and engine not running,is this correct,same for HEVAC??

Whenever i enter the BECM section,within a second or 2 message centre displays DIAGNOSTIC MODE and all light on dash go out,bar eas light and ABS light.At this point my fuel gauge drops to zero and fuel light comes on.Is this correct???
NOW,heres where the plot thickens.

My normally inop temp gauge goes from its usual default position to what i would say is the correct position for the current engine temp!!!!
Now i can drive both the fuel and temp gauges from the Nano, but i cannot get the temp gauge down past the normal position,ie. cannot send it to the cold setting manually.
As soon as i exit BECM all light on dash return as normal,fuel gauge slowly climbs back to its correct reading,and the goddamn temp gauge stops working!!!!:confused:

Any ideas ?

So you can drive the gauge, can you read the sensor? I don't have a Nanocom, but I don't remember lights going out when accessing the BECM, I don't remember the diagnostic mode message either but I will check with my Faultmate which runs basically the same software as the Nanocom if it would help.
Key positon 2 is I think normal with engine not running, other ECU's may need the the engine running.

Yip agree about some ECUs in pos2 and some with engine running.

Weirdest bit is the fact that the fuel gauge goes down when in "diagnostic mode" and can then be driven manually,but the temp gauge starts working normally and sits at the current temp.And i can only drive it up past the point its sitting at,cannot get it to go to the cold setting.
Then when i exit the BECM menu,all relevant dash lights come back on and fuel gauge back to normal,temp gauge dies???

Could possibly be an earth problem.
