I got one from Lidl, It's the same size as the clock in the dash, some folk have even replaced the original clock with these. Cost £4.99. Similar ones to be found on eblag.
I fixed it in the extreme rh corner of the dash infront of the windscreen, works well, but the inside temp reading is way out when the sun shines. Careful positioning of the remote outside sensor is essential for accuracy, mine is tucked in behind the cheese grater gille below the bumper.

your right.....sorry.........the glass bit in the door comes down and then you can reach your hand outside and guage the temperature.
Of course I lucky and don't need to open my window to know exactly how cold it is outside

but I spose opening the window a bit too exhausting
All I can say is an outside Temp Guage is about as useful as a flow meter on your windscreen washer bottle!!!!

Dont worry about the temp........your humour guage is stuck but luckily this is an easy fix........place suitable appendige in socket and flick switch

A temperature gauge would be useful if you park on the street in winter and you want to predict if it'll freeze overnight. Then you can tell if you need to use a car cover/defroster and allow an extra 10mins or so to scrape the window before work.
Also useful if the temperature drops whilst on a long drive and the road becomes slipper/icey but you can't judge this as you're driving in a nice warm heated cabin.
Why a 20 grand vehicle doesn't have one is anyone's guess, unless it's to save money.
(The MK1 Freelander 'clock' does look suspiciously like something out of a Rover Metro/British Leyland parts bin!).

Anyhow, everyones different, and if you want a outside temp sensor, then you can easily fit one - although theres no factory fit one from LR.
As riverside says, you can source nice quality units almost anywhere that will fit in the hole in the dash where the existing clock is. I done the same to my freelander using a clock from ebay which had nice big digits, the inside temp display, and the outside too.
I instlled the clock in the hole, ran the sensor wiredown behind dash, out by bonnet release cord, then tucked it low down inside the inner skin of the rear wing.. you couldnt see a single wire, it looked mind. The clock and temp were powered by batteries, and it was illuminated at night via a 12v car adaptor - as i thought that would look a bit odd, i wired the clock directly into the 4 pin connector that used to power the old clock (LGW wire to + and black to - on clock.
Theres a pic of how it looks on one of my old threads on here about 2 months ago titled 12v power from clock?
Ive got to be honest, as good as it looked, you could tell that it wasnt supposed to be in the hole where the original was.. So i reverted back to the original....

Most of my previous vehicles have had them and i agree about the clock, I found it very useful on the last cold spell when doing breakdowns at work when it was -19 and oil was starting to freeze to heaters i went to
