Good evening all,

I have searched thru several threads and forums trying to find answers about my Discos autobox.

I have a 53 plate Disco TD5 Auto 120k mileage.

Tonight I went out in it, everything was running ok, came upto traffic lights and stopped for red light. they turned to green and lost all drive from automatic gearbox. managed to get to side of road.
Engine runs fine, no warning lights. just no drive in any gears forward or reverse. had no nasty noises from gearbox prior to loss of drive.:(

Any ideas

Have you lost the oil? My mates I'd the same where a pipe came off and dumped all the art in the deck

We had the same problem last week, I was advised to first check that the HI-LO lever hadn't slipped into neutral as they sometimes do that.

We had to have the motor recovered in the end and it turned out the gearbox was sludged up with very little oil in it.
I've flushed it out twice and topped it up and next week I'm going to flush it again just to make sure

Checked to see if it had slipped into neutral but engages both high and low. Will get it recovered tomorrow and will check ATF level

Good morning Mr Freeze,
What's the best way to flush gearbox,?
I am a novice mechanic with a Haynes book;)

I had exactly the same on mine (on the motorway & towing a motorcycle) and it was the oil cooler pipe problem. There was oil all over the underside of the Disco (and the bike!).

Very common as the oil cooler pipes aren't very well swaged over from new.

Recovered Landy this afternoon. The oil cooler pipe had come off due to the crimp clip failing?. Pumped entire ATF over pub car park. Lovely patterns in the rain:). Took it to my local LR specialist, new pipe ordered with new ATF and going to plug it in to computer to make sure everything is ok with gearbox. £208 total cost. Genuine pipe cost £77+vat. Could have done it myself with a bit of time. But wanted to check everything was ok with gearbox. Will let you know next week if everything is all good
