Hi me againIn addition to my stalling and misfiring problems see other thread, I have also noticed the cruise control doesnt work. I press the dash button which lights up and the try to set by using the steering controls but nothing happens. Does it have it's own fuse or relay if so where? If not what else could cause it to not work? Could this have any effect on the other misfiring and stalling issue in my other thread.ThanksNick

Hi Nick,

I have a 1998 300tdi with cruise. When I had the same problem this is how I solved it.

Under the nearside headlamp is the cruise control compressor. From that the 8mm rubber hose runs all around the perimeter of the engine bay with a couple of joints here and there if I recall. Anyway check the hose connection on the compressor and the condition of the hose. Every joint has to be air tight for the cruise to work. I had two joints where the hose had cracked - cut the hose back a bit - connected it back up again and job done cruise worked.

Hope that helps

Mark

I would be interested to know the outcome as my cruise control is not operating either!

Likewise. Mine is going back in today to the dealer to have a look at the same problem under warranty.

Only just got my Disco so not that technically competent with it yet - however the cruise system looks similar to that fitted to Saabs in the early 90s (they later went over to electrical stepper motors - much better). Anyway the usual problem with the Saab system was the pendel switches not being adjusted correctly so the sytem thinks the clutch or brake is pressed hence cruise will not engage. Have a look to see if you can see these pendel switches under the dash and see if they can be simply pushed closer to the pendel.
I work with the chap that did the calibration for the cruise controller - I keep telling him how bad it is!

Thanks for all your advice, checked the pipes and woe and behold all were cracked so cut back and rejoined. Also found the join on the T junction behind the water tank rear nearside was missing a pipe. Had a quick scout round and found a loose ended pipe coming off what appears to be the vacuum advance unit. As it is the correct length (bar the bit cut off now) it is now attd. so will try it out on a run this eve. I'm hoping that pipe may also be affecting the tickover speed hence poor slow running on gas.

It is usally the pipes cracking as they perish easily with the heat of the engine (another landrover design masterpeice)
