You didn't have those little magnets on your fuel lines and notice a vast improvement in fuel consumption also by any chance did you? If you choose to use fully synthetic oil you can get it a lot cheaper than that. You can get strawberries from a barrow boy just as good as the ones you pay a fortune for in Harrods. As i said total waste of money reading and believing snake oil adverts.

Lmfao!

Wammers you are being un-fair! The price increase is obviously for the huge Research & Development programme and the expensive chemical manufacturing plant that is required for such a tecnically advanced product! I mean it`s not as if someone is about to re-label some ordinary Dexron, or similar and pass it off as something else is it?

Just a word of warning, Dextron 3 is a different oil to dextron 2 and I personally dont think it cross referances, Im not sure if its compatible with certain oil seals etc...

Out here there are 2 versions of Dexron III, semi synthetic and fully synthetic.

Dexron IID is the recommended oil for the Range Rover P38 transmission. So is Dexron III. As it impossible to drain the transmission completely, and a garage has no way of knowing which version was used initially it is safe to assume they are mixable otherwise Land Rover would have a BIG disclaimer in the handbook.

My copy of RAVE makes no mention of DEXRON II, it clearly specifies DEXRON III for Auto Box, TRF Box and power steering. See Volume 1, section 9, page 1:)

2000/2001 hand book revision 3, contained in MY2000 RAVE gives Dexron IID or Dexron III as alternative oil for transmission. Gearbox, transfer box, power steering. Also Texmatic 9226 for Power steering.

Blimey you are a sacrastic so and so!

I remember checking the various oils I could get, but it was some time ago.

Please give an example of the same oil as the difflock gear at a non 'Harrods' price, for those requiring them.

No just realistic. Even Halfrauds stuff is cheaper than that. Not being sarcastic. I just find it amusing that someone would pay £17.00 for litre of oil. Tell you what i have a load of ten pound notes here, i'll sell you them for twenty quid each.:):):)

Done some more digging and it's appears that Difflock re-label their oils and bump up price.

They are Amsoil oils I think.

Of course you're sarcastic, which is not helpful.

What do you consider to be helpful to most on here then. Recommending someone pay an extortionate amount of money for something they don't need. And they can put in their motor and forget about for 50,000 miles which is bull****. Or saying you don't need it, and normal oil changed more often is the best way to go. Fully synthetic oil is very good if you have a Evo 10 but a P38 does not need it. If you want to throw money away by all means do so. But don't get upset when it is pointed out you have been a little, lets say, misguided.

There's nothing wrong with being educated, it's great in fact.

But when you're mocked, it's easy to become defensive.

Back to the oil I bought, I genuinely thought I'd bought the best stuff. Looks like I could have done better, it's not often I get it wrong. It was my first RR and experience with diffs, transfer boxes and changing gearbox oils too, so I may have been overly cautious.

Didn’t do too bad having recently sold the P38 after almost 2 years and gained £500 in the sale price.

Cheers, big ears. :)
