If it is a Karen Yuill of Hamilton outsourced recovery, they will send a guy who is not even sure .....of anything.
You know them well then?

You would be surprised at what some people will tell a breakdown company in order to get a lift home - whether its because they are tired, or want a drink, or have just bought a car and need to get it home, or.....
so yes, they will usually insist that the "breakdown" is professionally assessed before dispatching a flat-bed (only heavy commercials and buses get a low loader)
It has become standard practice now for Green Flag recovery to only take you as far as the nearest garage that can fix the vehicle - no longer your choice - and only if it cannot be fixed that day will they then Recover you.
Interestingly, the Lady that set up that alteration to the way that Green Flag operates....is now running the Recovery operations at RAC - you have been warned!!
First problem is that the call-handlers are not mechanics. When a job is passed to a Contractor such as I work for, then yes, a mechanic (or Martin ) can assess the situation and take it from there....but with the generic companies...no.I wonder how much money is wasted double-handing jobs aa opposed to a decent assessment over the phone in the first place? On the other hand, there are an awful lot of people who drive cars and are clueless as to how they operate.
Maybe do a three tier system? If,the client has shown , over a number of years, that they have a vague idea of what they're talking about , and say vehicle needs low loader recovery, send recovery. If they seem like they know what they're talking about but aren't quite sure of the fault, send the van. If it is someone obviously out of their depth send the van. Might save some money , and lower premiums.I wonder how much money is wasted double-handing jobs aa opposed to a decent assessment over the phone in the first place? Right there in the first scenario emerges the description of a range rover owner.....knows everything that can leave him stranded at the back of his hand, and more than most, can give a proper description of their woes to anyone who might care to ask.
I'll get me coat now......

They have a lot more practice!

Quoting these again, as was thinking : I have driven hundreds of Series/Defenders and I've owned a Disco and an L322. I've also read hundreds/thousands of posts on here , and elsewhere, about Land/Range Rovers. Coming to the conclusion none of them give any less experience /practice of breaking down, than any other. They have a lot more practice!
