Hi folks just signed up. I'm living in Southampton UK. I have a 2001 td5 Discovery which I am really happy with. Its my 8th Land rover over 30 years, from series 11a, 3, 1998 Defender, 2 Discos, a Classic Range rover, another Disco and my current motor. My mechanics is self taught, what I know I know, but there's some huge gaps, especially with these fangled fly by wire things!
Looking forward to giving and getting advice to keep us all on the road. H.

Like you, I have a 2001 D2 Td5. I love mine, they really are great!! Very good off the tarmac, and pretty good on it too. People like to say how unreliable they are, but in all honesty, it's one of the most reliable vehicles I've owned.

One tip I will give you, and I'm currently looking to do, get yourself a decent Diagnostic tool. Nanocom seems to be the best, then the Bearmach Hawkeye seems to be the next best. you will find threads about it, but it's definitely a very worth while bit of kit to have.

Thanks for your reply, I got myself a Foxwell NT530, but have yet to try it in anger, but most reviews seem good. The thing I dread most is corrosion, that's what's killed all my previous Discos, luckily the chassis on mine is absolutely perfect, no welding and underseal in place, when it needs it I'll paint it with gutter paint which I found excellent on previous Land rovers, it's a tenth of the price of the stuff they sell for motors and is very effective.

Ah yeah, the Foxwell. I was going to get a Foxwell NT520 pro, but decided I'd wait and get a nanocom, as my mechanic uses Nanocom, so figured I'd get the same so results are consistent.
Yeah, my rear chasis has some corrosion, but not too bad, but I'm budgeting to save for a full chassis change within the next 3-5 years, so that I know it's all good for many more years to come. Bodywise, I know they still rust, but they don't seem to be as bad as D1's.
Currently, I do have the three amigos (again), but other than that, it's running exetremely well with 176k on the clock.
 
Dash lights give me nightmares, on my last motor it had this engine mgt light come on when it took the fancy, never gave up a fault code but trying to keep it off for an mot was a nightmare, managed though, got rid and bought the td5. Took a rea chance on it. Milage was 11300 or so, it had excellent Service history up to 2017, never failed an mot or had an advise. But the steering and brakes were shot. However on seeing the chassis at the price I thought it was worth a punt. New steering fluid, new front calipers, & discs and its been perfect going on 4 months now. Only niggle is a dodgy fuel gauge, soon as weather's better I'll sort it.
