Hi guys,

Here's a newbie question: I am looking at buying a 1995 300tdi 110 Defender. I did a quick lookaround and when I lifted the front passenger floor carpet, I saw that a plate has been screwed/bolted as if it stands on top of the real floor. Is this supposed to be there or is it there to maybe hide rust? I unfortunately do not have pictures to share. Just wondeting if this is normal OEM or aftermarket.

Difficult to say depending on where it was but the horizontal part of the floor is a separate piece that bolts to the bulkhead, seat box and door rail

It's very likely that what you describe is the real floor. It's a bolted in plate.

Land Rover's are one of the easiest vehicles to inspect. This is due to their construction and components. They also have the benefit that every single part of them is replaceable.

That said, I'd highly advise you go off and do some basic reading and research first. If you understand how they are built and the materials, you'll easily be able to answer stuff like this yourself.

I'll give you a hint, most of a 110 or 90 body is made from an aluminium alloy called Birmabright. This does not rust....

But some parts are made from steel and can.

You may want to look for exploded diagrams on Google or some pictures of a vehicle being stripped down, that way you'll be able to see the different bits.
