What about just taking the old one to you local glass company and getting them to cut one if they do laminated glass that is?

Try your local independant windscreen guys... dont touch auto glass. I got a new one for £35 last summer... make sure you replace the rubber. Unless you know what you are doing for £20 they should fit it.

I take it you haven't got windscreen cover then or you wouldn't be asking?

As above, try an independant windscreen company (there are still plenty of little guys out there if you look through Yellow Pages) as they will give you the best quote. Also they charge practically nothing to fit them whereas the big boys charge the earth.
When I need new windscreen (i've got through 3-heated ones in the past few years) I just go through my insurance (at £50 a time it's not worth worrying about) but when I needed the glass removing to have the frame repainted (twice now) I used my local chap.

Guess what? Somebody pays and it sure aint the insurance companies. Its loaded onto everyone's premiums. So the next time your insurance quote seems a bit strong you'll know one of the reasons why. But as you say "its not worth worrying about" unless you are 17 and trying to insure your motor which is already beyond most youngster's means.

So what you are saying is that even if you have windscreen cover (and I can't think of a policy that doesn't) you shouldn't use it???? The insurnace companies will love that!
I take it that you don't think people that take out roadside assistance on their policy should make use of it but instead run a separate policy with the AA or RAC as well? Likewise legal cover, pay for the cover but then pop down to see a solicitor at your own expense when you need legal assistance?

no i dont have insurance on this truck i bought it off a friend who wanted it out the way and i dont intend on running it as i have my own 90 but cheers guys ill have a call round the local companies

Hi, I recently bought (2months ago)a new tinted one from Rimmer Bros at Lincoln for about £48 I think it was.
Fitted it myself but I did buy a new screen rubber to make it easier on top of that price.
I have a spare screen fitted into a frame with a few windscreen wiper scuffs on that should go through a test if it helps. Work regularily in Grimsby/Immingham too.

Yep...I think that is what he is saying. Or in other words, if you pay your ridiculously high policy, that somehow increases every year ( even though the value of your vehicle decreases every year ) you should never, ever claim on it. Because that then makes you some sort of inconsiderate arsehole, and its your fault that everyone else's policy's are so dear. It cannot however be the fault of the vermin that drive uninsured, drunk or drugged. Or the smackheads that smash your window and steal the handbag that your wife has left on the front seat (stupid cow). Not their fault, nooooo. Its your fault mate, for having the audacity to claim what you are entitled to. What the bloody hell were you thinking of..:p;)
