Hi everyone I've just bought a 3.9l auto p plate and I want to strip it down to the chassis take out all the electrics I don't need then remove 20" from the chassis behind the gear box then weld it back together very much like jai did but I need help on the electrics I've been told the engine loom is separate from the other bits if that's the case how can I remove it easily.

Hi mad hat man so if I leave the engine loom in does that control all the stuff to make the engine run ie fuel pump, starter ect

Not a good idea to mess with the electrics if you dont know what you are doing.
Why take it all out?

Are you not having anything electrical on it?

It's going to be cut up to build a trails vehicle so doesn't need lights ect I just want a fuel gauge rev counter and the few bits to make it drive

Discool I'm hoping that as I'm only taking out bits I dont need it shouldn't be too bad and I'm not a complete novice

Tis easy :)

Yes the EFi loom is separate, it has all the engine sensors etc, it has one multiplug inside of the bulkhead where it joins the main loom and gets its power and earth, speed sense and fuel pump connection.

You could remove every other electrical component and simply make a mini loom to connect the EFi loom up and it will run.

Engine water temp, oil pressure lamp and rev counter are not part of the EFi loom, but if making a comp motor I would recommend just make up your own dash pod with quality oil pressure and water temp gauges and fit a decent rev counter connected to coil negative.

Will be a nice little job to do tbh :)

Thanks mr noisy that's exactly what I wanted to know so when I make a start I may need some more advice so may message you. Jon

Thats no problem pal, recently fitted Megasquirt on my 3.5 disco 200 shape so I've got pretty in depth knowledge of how these engines are wired up now.

Message me anytime or tbh keep it in this read for reference for others.

Cheers :)
