Firstly Hello,

I have just joined. I owned the previous Vogue Supercharged 2011. I have subsequently bought the new Vogue Aluminium body one 2013 October.

I have a persistent suspension knock on bumps. it sounds like a kluck sound. They have taken it in bled the suspension etc but it still happens. My previous model never had it.

I am not a petrol/mechanic head type.

Any ideas? they tell me it is normal and they are trying to find a solution. That and the thumping sound at the back as the air suspension kicks in. My wife has the new RRS V6, only 2 months old and it has that same thump but not the knocking sound.

Any advice?

Regards Drew

Chuck them back at the dealer to fix or sell an buy something reliable. It's bad news that even new RR's are no better screwed together.

Knocking sounds like suspension bush/ bushes, The thumping would be the air compressor, I'm guessing its mounted in the boot like earlier models. Does not say much about newer R/R's does it.

+1 its new so shouldent have worn anything out yet
Sounds like something wrong and the dealers cant find it! I would concider going to a different dealers
When they "bled the system" what did they do? Its compresed air and it has (or should have) a air dryer to prevent moisture getting in and even then it wouldent cause a knock
And if they say its normal why did they feel the need to bled the system? I agree with tomcat youve got a bush or bolt loose
As for the thud not sure. I can see how the compresser can thud but not why lr didn’t do anything about it.

I would suggest you advise you will reject both cars..
Agreed give the car back and tell them to fix it.

That problem you are explaning sounds like a dull knock from the front of the vehicle right in the center of the vehicle. Low down in the bowels of the vehicle. Both rr and rrs shares the same front and rear subframes. What you describe is a well documented noise/concern and jlr are currently working on a fix, ive worked on and heard this noise on all the rr and rrs. From what I can gather is there is no detrimental effects of the vehicle handling or safety wise just a dull knock that is experienced. I would keep in contact with the dealership and ask for regular updates if there is a fix or cure. They are put together very well compared to old lr products. Its just a shame it has this well documented dull knock otherwise it is an immense vehicle.

What he means by bleeding is the arc bars for those who dont know what arc is, it is a hydraulic anti roll bar to help with body roll, helps with suspension articulation. The first port of call when this noise was first documented was to bleed the front and rear arc bars.

You sound very knowledgeable on the later models. Do you know what is causing the thumping in the back ? If I had spent as much money as the OP then the thumping in the back would be me and the sales person :D:D

The reason why im knowledgeable on the newer stuff is that its my job I work for a main dealer (go on rip me for it I know how you people feel about the stealers).

The thumping noise in the back I have no idea and cant recall any noise from the rear only the front dull knock, im afraid. I agree spending that kind of money and have a problem like this makes you feel that the product is not for purpose

But what you must remember is that when cars are manufactured and tested they get tested to a high standard and unfortunately some faults get through the net. This is why when you purchase a new vehicle the manufacturers issue a warranty whether it be 3yrs unlimited miles or a 1yr like a washer machine all new products get a warranty whether it's a 100k car or a £200 washer machine.

What I suggest is that the op has faith in the dealer and jlr and explain his concerns and wishes to get the problem solved without to much inconvenience to him, if he still has trouble then get in contact with landrover customer services and explain the situation and sometimes they have more answers or can advise the dealers and get the ball rolling quicker.

Thing being that the ops car is a 2012 were now on 2014 and lr have got a new model to worry about! im thinking if they havent found a cure for this"common problem" by now! they may well never find a "cure" as there no longer looking for one! As the warranty only has a year or so left they can stall you untill the warranty runs out

At best his car is 15 months old, jlr are working on a fix, they can fix it but it is getting the balance right on the suspension, ride and comfort.

Thank you very much for the input. The dealers have been very helpful but it is the same old story. Buy a car and then drive another. I feel for them because they are at the mercy of the manufacturers. Be that as it may, with Top Gear ratings the 2013 should be flawless. It is not. sad.

Why would a Top Gear rating improve a brand that has never been close to flawless??

Maybe because Top Gear is a comedy. Good luck!!

It was a remark, basically echoed by most journals. I was not being flippant. I really like the vehicle, it is superb, bar the the damn niggle. I was just trying to ascertain if there were other vehicles with the same issues.

I must add I corrected my original post with the correct date. I apologise the vehicle I have now is the 2013 model.

It is a fantastic vehicle and build quality is the best ive seen on a lr product and as you have said it just a little niggle bear with it and keep up to dte with the dealer.

Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the manufacturer and development people on a fix once it is fully investigated tested and confirmed I can see it being rolled out very quickly to restore customers faith.
