Changing the radiator on my 300tdi disco 1, I also have all new hoses as they look seriously old and tired plus thermostat.
This is my first time flushing the coolant so just wanted to check a few things.

I was planning on draining through the bottom of the radiator first, then removing all the hoses and radiator.
Next I was going to flush the heater forward and back, flush out the expansion tank, remove the thermostat and flush where it was. Is there anything else? Does the engine have a drain? I don't want to leave any of the old coolant in as it is the wrong type and it looks really bad.

Once the new radiator is on and the hoses/radiator should I fill up with just water and drive for a bit, then drain again and fill with coolant/water? Is it worth changing the water pump too? I have no idea how old the current one is.
 
Why not flush the system three times, that is drain the system refill with plain water run the engine for five minutes, switch off and after it’s cooled drain repeat again.
When you come to replace what u have to just the clear water will then run out, you could rinse out the new rad if you think you need too.
As for a drain on the engine block ... I don’t know what Tdi’s have.
As for replacing the pump, if there something wrong with it replace it, un less u are you on a mission to replace all your vehicles parts that don’t have an idea of their age :)

There is a drain plug on the 200tdi engine but it's not at the bottom so it will still leave a few litres inside. It's also a.pig to get to so i would do as.advised and drain from the bottom hose of radiator, fill with water, drain and repeat until it.comes.out.clean. Then fill with 50% ethylene.glycol antifreeze.
 
Thanks for that both of you, it is 300tdi, just thought engine drain too would save time.

I know the seal for the thermostat is on the thermostat so assume I can't run the engine without it for quicker flushing?
