Hi All!
Just thought I would share my experience to date with a 1974 series 111 diesel. I paid probably a little to much for it but living on the Isle of Skye and not having the choice of landys available down south and a new mot I thought Id go for it.
Mot not worth ****! I am getting on top of the problems now and becoming familiar with the Landy.
Replacing all 4 shock absorbers made an incredible difference! They were completely cooked.
Heater and flashers now work (bad earths)
Fuel gauge now working (cleaned the sender unit)
Generally tightening lose fittings up has helped with the rattling
Landy came with 4 L of bronze green paint, so I quickly painted the bugger to stop it looking like a scrapper. Looks not to bad now compared to when I first bought it.
Oil filter and change has helped a great deal with start up smoke. I added a half a litre of engine restore! I thought I would give it a go J Ill let you know how I get on after the first 500 miles. Any thoughts on this stuff?
Fuel filter
Handbrake adjusted
New front seats and rubber gear gators cleaned up the interior a little.
Clutch bleed has removed the drag! I can now find gears when stationary
The big hassle was mismatched diffs so I could not run in 4wd. Spend a small fortune on good second hand range rover diffs. The shipping cost the same as the diffs but it had to be done.
Bulkhead is good! Thankfully but welding is required on the chassis. My funds do not allow me to get this work done at the moment but I have cleaned and treated it for now. There are a few doggy looking patch welds and a couple of holes around the os front chassis bump stop.
Temp gauge still does not work but I think I have isolated this to the gauge its self.
Got to leave it alone for a bit now and spend some time with my family J MOT MY ARSE!!!
Im keeping this one. It really does feel good now but I have to get that welding done. There is nothing like driving a series land rover I reckon!!!
Thanks for all your help to date J
