The V8 looks nice but it has 19" wheels off a L322, they arnt meant to go on there and are a bodge- Avoid. Look at Vogue V8s with sequential LPG.

this is tasty LPG again

Getting a bit far out in terms of cost for me...

Is LPG a hassle at all? What are they like to drive?

What are everyones pros and cons - LPG versus Diesel?

With a good multipoint LPG system you cannot tell the difference wether it is running on gas on petrol, the change over is fully automatic and imperceptable. My 4.6 is cheaper to run than the diesel Discovery it replaced and it makes a much better noise. Sure its another system, but they are very robust and only give trouble if neglected like other systems.

Indeed I love the sound of a V8! Never concidered due to percieved cost. Just run a V8 through insurance compare site and it is only 20-30 quid more expensive than the diesel. This is with saying there are no modifications. Is LPG concidered a modification that would affect insurance?

How can I tell if the LPG system is a well fitted one or if it is a DIY special? Are there any regulations on teh fitting of them? I don't fancy being turned in to a fireball on the motorway ;)

You say they switch over automatically? Is this dependent on the speed or do you switch it manually from the cokpit?

Unless someone can come up with a valid reason that Diesel is cheaper I might actually change my mind and go down the LPG route. Only problem is there aren't lodas of them around...then again neither are there alot of Diesel either.

Mine is a diy special , but was fitted in acordance with the LPGA guide lines and is fully certified. That is the secret, the certificate, make sure you get one. It made no difference to the insurance. You don't have to do anything to change over, just drive, it changes over itself at 1300 rpm if the water is above 30 deg from cold start and you won't even notice (except the light will change on the gauge) I won't ever go back to diesel.

Wow awsome!

Well I'm not 100% I'd want to do it myself although I used to work on my minis and beetle when I was younger.

If I find a decent V8 how much would it cost to have converted?

Just had a look at this. Quite an impressive job and neater than my specialist installed system!

One question though about your filler valve - I note it's over the 'hole' in the bumper for the 2nd trailer electrics socket. Do you have any problem with the filler nozzle fouling on the towbar? Looks like a swan neck type in the photo.

My filler's in the same place and I want a towbar but I didn't think there would be enough clearance without having to move the filler.

Right been thinking hard all day and I might go for LPG conversion, but I am nervious about getting one so may end up going for a much higher spec to be sure.

The Vogue 50 I posted above is up for 8 grand and I can try to get them down to 7. Still over my budget though. It looks in very good condition and has ok milage. Its already converted to LPG. I'll ask to see the boot as I am aware of how much room the tank can use up, the whole point of this was so i can put my dog in the back.

QUESTION - Am I going a bit over the top and can i get much better for much less?

Alternatively there is this

Actually looks very very cheap and I could afford to have the LPG conversion done at a later date?

Do you have any problem with the filler nozzle fouling on the towbar?

No, its fine. The only problem I have is my local shell garage has the shortest hoses ever, so if you dont park in the right spot I cant get the nozzle on.

I got several quotes before deciding to do it myself, most where around the £2500 mark. I found it a remarkably simple job, about 2 1/2 days all in, the instructions were spot on.

That link seems to be for the same car as before, might want to check it. I paid £5500 for mine 18 months ago, 2001 Vogue with everything and 80k on the clock. It was up for £6800 but I took a punt and was most surprised when the guy said OK. Keep looking. You will pay a bit more for a 50th Aniv Special but its still too much at £8k.

The gas tank is in the spare wheel well, so wont affect your boot space, as mine is.

might be a daft question but where do you put your spare wheel then?

I'm getting a loan so might go for a bit more. What is the optimum range where you get the best value? I imagine 6000-7000?

Thats more like it. Bid him £4k spend a bit on a gas kit nice job. I keep my spare in the garden, and a tin of tyre fix repair juice in the car. Simples.

That VOgue 50 is overpriced.

I like your style ha ha.

Should I go for AA/RAC check on it?

I'm a bit puzzled why this one is 4.5 grand but most others are them going for 5000-7000? Obviously I'd need to have a look in person. I have emailed them and asked about condition of engine, whether there is any evidence of gas comunication from block etc and what condition the air sus is.

Might be cheaky and offer 6 grand for the vogue as it's nice, there's also a Holland Holland up for the same money and could offer a lot less as well for it. Never know.

Give us a shout before you go and look at any, and we will point out some things to look out for. Its a good idea to make a list as it is easy to forget with a big shiney thing in front of you.

Cheers mate!

Will do, in the meen time I'm stuck in Libya so got another week pretending to work so might as well read up of the forums :D

Dont worry I think I found it here I would defo go for that sweetheart. They are the closest thing you will get to a non depreciating RR - much sort after.

Yes I spotted that little rascal also :D

What do you think I could honestly get away with offering?
