As most will be aware as of january fuels will be sulphur free and having a bio content known as fame are there any seal filter or other issues i should be aware of in my 2000 td5 thanks for any answers.

I run 100% fame(biodiesel) in my 300 tdi-no issues with rubbers yet-did renew a short piece of pipe,for air ingress,but looked more perished than dissolved by bio-if you should have any seals fail,replace with viton
 
This only applies to off road vehicle diesel and heating oil. I.E. Tax free Red Diesel and Gas Oil.

Taxed road vehicle diesel (DERV) has been ULSD (Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel) for a number of years and has contained 5% FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) otherwise called Biodiesel for a few years now. It must conform to BS EN 590 UK.

Therefore there's no issue, unless you run a Tier 3B tractor where there are big issues, but that's another story.

Last spring and summer I tried running with veg oil in my older disco (300 Tdi) by mixing rape seed oil (34p a litre) into the tank with normal diesel. I reckon I got up to about 75% veg oil to 25% mineral diesel with no problems. Moved back to 100% diesel for winter and changed the filters to avoid problems with waxing.

The info about fuel having 5% bio fuel from January is useful, I may need to modify my mix.

I don't recommend this for cold weather as the veg oil goes like jelly when cold, but it worked well and even seemed to make the engine run smoother.

Not sure whether I'm brave enough to run the TD5 on this yet.

Don't forget to inform the revenue if you do this, you're allowed 2500 litres without paying duty so keep all your receipts as proof, and don't forget that customs related records need to be produced for up to 7 years after the event.
 
Will this bring fuel prices down?

126.9p a litre is a JOKE and even makes my Gaylander TD4 manual seem thirsty! They know me by name at the local fuel station already!

We were paying 128.9 up to last week but I daresay its closer to 130 by now :(

I experiment with svo.
I left a bottle of veg oil in the garden in this weather and it did not turn to jelly. (-10C)
It still poured as oil!
I think you can still get away with 50/50 even in these temps...?

It shouldn't turn to "jelly" it just gets thicker, too thick to pass through your fuel system.
I am still using a mixture which is 60% wvo and it's fine as long as you mix it before you put it in the tank.
Pumping derv on top of svo doesn't always mix it well enough.

EN590 Derv has had 5% Bio since before 2008!
