HELLO.

Ive heard contrasting rumours about the Defender.
Are they keeping it as it is but with a few tweeks or is ford going to **** it up with a **** car and call it a landrover defender.

The reason I am asking is that i am wanting to chop my p38 diesel in for a new defender. However I dont want to buy one untill I know what is happening.

The reason for wanting to wait is prodomanantly cash based.
IE buy a defender next week then the new look model comes out and mine takes a ****ing price drop like a lead weight in a well.

please advise me what is happening with the defender
thanks ewan

The same thing happens no matter wot the make of car.
As soon as u buy a brand new motor and drive it off the forecourt you've lost several grand.
New Defender ????
Im as keen as you to see what its gonna look like,i got a freind who works at landrover solihull and he tells me its a closely kept secret.

Hi people
I recently went for an interview at my local landrover dealership and this was mentioned its a whole new defender but with minor changes engine etc and apparently the seating arrangements have been changed due to new safety laws and thats about all they said. A artical in last months landrover owner said pretty much the same as well
Hope they dont change it too much though its an icon and still looks good!!!!!

So your saying it will look the same? Still have a chassis etc...

I was at at a compny the other day and they were manufacturing equipment to manufacture the seats and they said that the seats are based on the transit seat.

found out that the engines that go in the new defender are all from the ford transit range.( quoting a salesman at guy salmon in sheffield).

July edition of LRM has a good article on this, explaining that the new model will run on till 2010, and maybe longer depending on sales/legislation etc. I wonder how long you can keep Maestro/Montego window winders in production...

Forget it. If you want a new car buy a Santana Anibal. It's what Land Rover should have done after the Series 3: a tough bastard off-roader that can take all the abuse you can throw at it, brought bang up-to-date. Leave the Defender to the caravanners ;)

A mate of mine has a 1989 mini city e. the window winders are in that too, along with the indicator stalks, door pulls and front indicators. I thonk its abou time they got rid of some of the leyalnd cast off parts, and built the things properly. Though i hope the new one doesn't have too much electronic tat in it or lifestyle type luxuries such as AC, leather seats, and electric windows.

Tough, reliable, simple and well built. Thats what they shoul be. leave the luxuries to the disco, freelander, range rover etc.

I think air con , electric windows and leather are already there and are a major factor in keaping the currenyt model selling.
Also i think they are here to stay as landrover are trying to get the defender back into the us market, and the fat yanks like there comforts.

as for the previous comment about defenders are only fit for towing caravans and we should buy that spanish crap rip off santana im afraid the chap must have banged his head at birth.

Ooh, touchy! :)
I have driven the new Santana off road, alongside most of the other off-roaders available. The Santana was the out-and-out winner.:) The only thing to out-perform it was the Pinzie, and we're really going into different territory with that one.
If my joke about the Defender caused you upset and stress then I apologize unreservedly. Please forgive me - I promise to be 100% serious with all my posts from now on.

Yer big wuss heidi
dont let him ger away wiv it, Stand up and be a man, he aint even got a defender:p ;)

No, Mondo no! This forum is for serious discussion only - no jokes in here. Owning a Solihull vehicle is a serious business. Brook Bond has shown me the error of my ways, and I shall, from now on, endeavour to be a good boy.

Can I put me trousers back on now?

Gone a bit quiet in here, huh?
I do hope I didn't upset that nice Mr Brook Bond. I was hoping he could join me in my new Puritan crusade to clean-up this depraved forum and drive-out all humour and mockery. Together we can make a better world. Join me in the brotherhood!
I can feel a song coming on....

For some time now I have been tempted to voice my opinions about this subject, I can only agree with you Gareth, this rash stupidity and frivolity must be stamped out. It is a scourge on the Landrover fraternity, we on this forum are letting the side down, and should be made an example of. We ought to take a leaf out of other forums books and eradicate any foul language, name calling, slagging off of other members particularly new ones, we must encourage new members no matter how obnoxious they are, in fact we ought to take on their obnoxiousness it is the way forward.

Let us all join together United As One and march together through the land spreading the word, the word being,

B.O.L.L.O.C.K.S

And if you don't agree with us you can g* **** y**rself.

I understand that we are likely to see a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder td Ford Transit engine with similar power to the TD5 but with far better CO2 rating. There will also be seat changes as suggested earlier in the forum which will eliminate the bench/inward facing seats. This will reduce the seating capacity in both the 90 and 110 station wagons. There will also be some minor facelift stuff.

I sinceerly hope land rover do not do the same to the defender as they have done to the new (ish) disco. Because that and the new range are not really off roaders in my mind anymore. They are just expensive cars that people use to gain street cred and look superiour on the road. Most people who own these just use them for pottering about. Not off roading or anything at all of that nature. I blame the americans.
