I've just fitted the vented version of the paddocks performance discs to the front of mine. I already had vented calipers but they were a bit knackered so I fitted a pair of OEM replacements and they cost me £100 each plus the vat.
I can't remember if it was Delphi or mintex pads I stuck on it.
I haven't done a huge amount of miles in it so unfortunately it's a bit early for me to report back.
sounds similar to my upgrade. vented discs, noo calipers and pads. have done a couple of thousand miles and they've been fine. Especially as rears were siezed and fooked.. So fronts have been doing most of the work.
did ya do the wheel bearings too?
Yes.
Have also had swivels/hubs rebuilt and changed stub axles and CV's & halfshafts. noo springs noo shock, noo trackrod ends etc etc front end has had a complete overhaul.
So that's your half sorted. When's minty doing hers?
Ok, so whilst I'm spending all that cash would it make sense to spend a bit more and get the vented discs and new callipers to match? Or would the solid grooved discs and greenstuff pads be a good enough improvement on their own?

The heaviest I tow is my 1400kg caravan. And im a relaxed steady driver when im in the Defender.
ive done quite a few ,and if not essential, if any mod/upgrade is worth doing its brakes
Always worth upgrading brakes but vented brakes dont stop any better than non vented the just disperse heat faster but to get heat issues you need to be pounding brakes quiet hard. 30mph you could do 10 emergency stops before you heat the brakes as much and slowing from 90-70.
while that is true mostly ,vented do seem better even on a lr
Well they would after 2 hours of driving because they will keep heat down but only on road because one you Bury the wheels in mud they will be full of ****e and rotting quicker! It's a bugger of a choice but imo if you have a trailer solid if you have the family motor/towing truck vented.
