Hello people I recently purchased a 1998 Discovery 300TDI auto to replace my BMW 323 estate. As I live on a farm at the top of a mountain I decided that the discovery was a much more suitable vehicle and when I get this thing to actually work properly I might be right :mad:

Anyhow here's the car please excuse the bad mobile phone photography as my proper camera broke.

When I first got her she was gutless and I mean really gutless. Dropping to 10mph and first gear on hills and wouldn't have had enough power to pull away on a slope. That had to be wrong so I did some investigations and discovered valve clearances you could drive a bus through. With those set correctly the car suddenly became quite nice to drive albeit still a bit too slow.

So she was treated to fresh filters and fluids and she started running quite nicely but I still wanted more power so now she no longer has an EGR valve or a CAT. Id love to say she is much better but she also before any modifications started being a pig to start. I'll start a thread elsewhere for that as im going to need some advice on it.

I bet driving the Spitfire up and down your track is fun! ;)

I tried it wont :D When I got it, it was a non runner and came down the track on a beaver tail transporter. I got it going and ready for an MOT and went to take it out and beached it halfway up the track. Had to pull it out with another car. Im going to change the rear spring on it but I doubt it will be enough. That was one of the reasons for buying the disco. I can put the spit on a trailer behind it once ive passed my test and get it down the drive that way.
 
Welcome. You've got some cracking outbuildings too. In between the Land Rovers you might be quite surprised at how much discussion of Triumph Spitfires there is on here too.
 
Oooo that does sound good I wonder if they'd be any interest in my belt driven DAF as well? As for the outbuildings the best one is not photoed there. 3 cars long with a standing height inspection pit in it.
 
Funny you should mention that. We had a belt driven Daf many years ago. It had a horizontally opposed twin cylinder engine a bit like a BMW motorbike. Surprisingly good offroad too,for a 2 wheel drive car, probably because it was so light.

remember as a kid lifting one of these off road on to pavement, with some coppers as it was siezed up. So the could clear the main road. glad it wasn't a disco
 
That would be like my 44 then. 844cc aircooled flat twin. I use mine when snow comes as its fantastic.

There's something awesome about merrily pootling up a steep ice covered hill in a 44yr old economy car past all the floundering BMW and Audi 4WDs. Now i've got the disco though I can sit at the bottom of said hill with a tow rope and a cash box, albeit when I have put the all terrains on it.
