Hey guys !
Today i will present my first project (i have 19 yo) (will do my presentation after this post)

So, i bought this 1997 Discovery 1 300 Tdi "Aigle (Eagle)" Limited Edition. With aroud 340 000 km (211 000 miles). The car suffered a lot due to a bad precedent owner... My objective is to renove this rusty boy, but he have some rust to treat and i want to know how to repair the rust (especially the boot of pillar) ? So if you have some picture to show me for example it could be really usefull for me !

Here there is my big boy :)
Have a good day :)

Firstly welcome :) .

Well you have certainly jumped in the deep end.
Suggest you look at other projects by other members. But for sure you have taken on a lot of work, hope you can weld.

Good luck.

J
Thanks !

Yeah i bought everything to weld on. Have you seen worse than mine ? It is saveable ?

Everything is savable with money, effort and willing. Is it actually worth the cost only you can decide, I don't do Discos so cant really comment on its level of bad, but it certainly has many areas to be addressed. If that's the body what's the chassis like?

See if you can find @resto_d1 threads he tried once but is at it again. There maybe others.
He may even pop up now and share his pain :).

Chassis is pretty good, the black point is the body. I'll check some other thread

Hours of work ahead with a fair amount of replacement panels/pieces to purchase. I wouldn’t do it unless you enjoy welding and fabricating. It will cost a fair bit of time and work. I am only doing mine because I enjoy welding and metalwork.

You’ll want all new inner wings - might as well buy the whole lot with the headlight surrounds, probably a minimum of 4 body mounts, I’d guess rear crossmember is gone. Hopefully the roof and beams under the alpine windows haven’t.

It is a task and a fairly expensive one. If YRM deliver to France then they’ll become your best mate!

Pillar is double skin - you have to drill all spot welds then pick your slit locations.

I’ll add that mine is a fairly good one too!!!

Here’s another one of your holes and a trickier section - your bulkhead could be quite rotted out. The little section facing the camera is where the inner wing spot welds to the bulkhead

Thanks for your reply, i really want to learn welding and metalwork too, basically, money will not be a problem for me. Thanks for ur picture also

Enjoy it then I guess!! Bits and pieces will always make you curse but I really enjoy working on mine. I switch off from everything and just crack on with a podcast on. As always it’s having time though!

If you are going for it you’ll want to look coatings, replacement panels etc. I’d recommend Corroless for your primer and yrm for all your panels and mounts. Their service is brilliant.

Let us know what you decide and how you get on. Oh and remove the dash and deadening before you go near that bulkhead with a welder!!

I'm so motivated coz it's bring me some childhood memory with my dad's D1. I will do it, being organized and focus on precise corrosion zone to treat and not to be scattered. Thanks for your advices, i will order what i need (already bought a good welder mig) and start to do it next week. This will change me from school. I will do a to do list also.

Thanks and have a good evening to all
