Yes I'd be very surprised if the Defender as we know it continued beyond what's currently understood to be its end date. What with passenger and pedestrian safety concerns, emissions standards and the like they're not going to be allowed to sell it in many parts of the world. So there's going to be some sort of new SUV to fill the gap in the range.
I understand that this is what we are being told, so how come Merc' can sell the GWagon and Jeep can sell the Wrangler both have similar profile and build issues. As for emissions the current Defender has the latest transit engine there is no reason why it can't have the next generation engines to keep up with the requirements.
