Well I am not surprised the old diff was whining a bit. Virtually no oil in it!
They only have 0.6 litre, so it really makes a difference if a small amount is missing.

Lucky if there was 100ml in mine. Took about 750 to fill the replacement one. They only have 0.6 litre, so it really makes a difference if a small amount is missing.
Sounds like the QR connector wasn't pushed fully home. Nice easy fix.Pushed it back and and seemed to click into place and been fine since.
More messy than nasty. Diesel makes an horrible mess, but at least it not a bomb waiting to happen like petrol. That cud have been nasty
Not good man hope ya get sorted had no luck on mg forumLooks like the used diff I fitted is more worn than I thought. Getting increasingly whiney on the motorway. Now do I go for another used one, bite the bullet and buy a reconditioned one or try and rebuild the one I have myself?
Stuck another used diff in yesterday (lot easier to do second time around, especially as all the bolt are copperslipped now) and with great relief it passed the Northern Ireland MOT this evening. Things are looking up.
