how easy to get to connectors on the Alt?
Looks like access will be between the engine and radiator half way donw so not easy but must be do-able. Mix of above and below to get the best access. Never done a td4 before.

Several FL1 2002 onwards alternators on ebay local to where he is, if it needs replaced.

thanks for everones help

ive swopped bats and just setting off to try and get to penistone near sheffield

fingers crossed

will up date later

thanks everyone

griff

Access looks a bit tight. The air con compressor looks as if it's in the way if fitted. I've not got a td4 but I'd try not to have to remove the coolant if possible. Just makes it easier.

The rave disk tells you to disconnect the battery. Remove the engine sump guard. Drain the engine coolant. Remove the coolant hose at the lower front of the engine. Release the auxiliary belt. Undo the air con compressor bolts and move to one side (don't disconnect the air con pipes). Remove air con compressor mounting. Swap the alternator. Reverse to put back.

LZIR stood down.

notify me of any further requirements.

OP - reply to txt - if we dont know we can contact you - yu are helpless.

Just cought up on this... Only at Garforth maybe 5 miles from sherburn... Tools in motor if needed .. also have rigid tow bar and ropes straps if he don't make it home.. might even have a spare battery at home...

Finish work at 5 though so hopefully he will be home by then...

I'm not far from the M1, and I'm at home today, wouldn't be much use other than a tow or a lift though. You have my number

Fresh battery on a diesel driving at day time with no lights on he'll easily do 50 miles and then some. It's only powering the ECU and a few other bits...

I'm sure someone local in Sheffield can help you out - how long are you in your location for?

Guessing no news is good news at this point. Just back from rescuing landladies daughter who's blown the head gasket on her 406.
"It got really hot and the stop light came on but then the temp gauge went down again so I carried on...."

He needs help in the form of tools and advice in the Sheffield area.

Makes perfect sense... it all broke, but, then, magically fixed itself so good to continue :p
