Driving this morning and the my disco lunged to one side and mounted the curb, total lack of control all I could do was slam the ancors on. Luckely no one around but stopped short of a telegraph pole by about a nats wisker. On inspecting the under side of the car rear prop was hanging, cardum had seperated; on closer inspection the problem became apparent. The drivers side trailing arm had snapped the bracket at the axle end, an hour later and managed to get it to a friends land rover breakers yard (about 1/2 a mile from where trailing arm broke) An hours work and new bracket was made and attached but cant get over how lucky I was, if I'd been doing 70 instead of 25 the day might have gone a lot different.
Looks like ASBO MKII is going to be as much fun as ASBO 1 (my first Disco).

Glad your all right and no-one was hurt elsewhere.

all too common an issue... let this be a warning to all that 5 minutes spent doing checks each month can save your life. these brackets do rot badly especially if regularly off roaded and left caked in mud... same as the posts on here where props have given out when a regular UJ check would have revealed safely... a broken prop digging into the road at 70mph isnt much fun either.
Admittedly you cant always spot every problem but a few simple checks each month could save your life... glad the OP is safe it could have been a lot worse for him or any unlucky passer by.

In all seriousness though, you should have a good inspection and take a club hammer to all the other brackets on your axles and chassis. If that one was perished to the point of falling off, chances are the others aren't far behind.

When i bought my fender last year, I didn't notice that one of the shock brackets was completely ripped apart and no longer holding the shock. On close inspection, the other side was sheared also, but looked fine with a quick glance. That snapped off a week or so later. Yrm are good for replacement brackets and the like.

Already been round the car with a magnifing glass.
Ronnies stuff at YRM is excellent, I only live about 3 miles from his place and use his stuff all the time, infact just fitted one of his outer sills to a freinds disco at the weekend.
Still counting my blessings and will be going to monthly inspections as recommended from now on.
