I've been rebuilding my 93 200tdi for the past couple of years (that way she never misses the money) and it's went a bit wrong on me.

I started out with a more rough and ready idea in my head, but it has become more refined as I've progressed. The guy that did the painting went way over the top (supposed to be a quick lick of paint!) and now it looks a bit wrong.

It has a terrafirma 2" lift kit. Do I drop to standard or do I go for a 1" lowering kit?

Do I change the rims to standard boost rims and tyres? I've never used these ones so could probably flip them on.

I guess this is what happens when a project spans a couple of years :rolleyes:

LOL thats the colour ive done mine, and i would like the wheels,,,,,,,,,,,,, but not that wide and not them tyres, it does look a bit balloony.
what size rims and tyres?
iam looking at standard 8x16 and either 235x85 or 265x75.
 
You have to decide what you want it for.
Are you going off road?
If its soft mud or sand wide tyres may help otherwise it may make it worse.
Are you towing?
Wide tyres may make you wallow around.
Is it just for style?
Then you need to choose your style and stick to it.
At the moment I think those wheels and tyres don't go with the style of the rest of the vehicle. You need wide arches and more of a body kit to carry them off.
By the way if you keep those tyres you need wider arches, if you can see the tread from above your arches in the middle they are not wide enough. It's not part of the MOT but some enthusiastic copper could nick you.
 
Hmmmm.........that's what I bloody thought myself. :(

I bought the wheels (tyres are 33x12.5x15 bloody monsters) shortly after I got the defender and my intention was more off-roading to be honest, then that bloody paint man got carried away........he laughed when I told him I was considering doing it with a roller myself!

I have a new defender coming through work, and it's coming with boost alloys and I ordered a set of sawtooth to replace the Boost ones. I guess I'll be keeping the boost wheels and selling the ones I have at the moment!

Any takers?? :p great tyres, never used!! :bounce:

It is a failure over here in sunny NIR, so I'd have to swap them off for MOT.

It's about a stone being thrown onto another vehicle behind, so extending the mudflaps should reduce the risk of that, but reasoning and logical thinking ain't in the rule book........it's a fail!

I also had bought a set of +2" arches but when I trial fitted them they didn't look rite either.........sold them on here a while back. :eek:
 
The width isnt the only problem you have , contact with bodywork on full travel will be another , so as you say sell them and mount a more sensible set , that wont spoil the look of the vehicle, JMHO
 
ok........so ive changed back to the original springs and I think its looks much better now, I might even keep the wheels after a bit of black powder coating!!

Looks like you might have some trouble with the tyres fouling the bodywork if the springs compress a bit. Are you sure you've got enough room there?
 
Well I've jacked her up at each of the front corners and turned from lock to lock without a problem, but I suppose time will tell.

I'm guessing I'll change to the boost rims on a 30mm spacer when the new truck comes, but these do make her that wee bit different! ☺️

.....although, I've just had a thought.......I took the +2" springs out but I've left the bigger bump stops in, I wonder if they're keeping the wheels out of the arch a bit??
