Chaps,

I remember watching top gear/5th gear/?? years ago when they were pitting 4x4's against each other. They drove a shogun up a muddy field as far as it would go, then a rangie and then something else - all failed before a series waddled past them all without a fuss; what was that program!??

I can't find it on youtube :(

Anyone remember it?

It's definitely one to remember, as the series hadn't been featured (if my memory serves me correctly!) in the test/review to that point (i don't think) and one-by-one these trucks get stuck when out of the blue this old landy on period rubber waddles by - at least that is how i remember it! :)

I seem to remember a magazine big splash where they put 20 plus new "off-roaders" through a "proper" track

They had everything, Range's, Merc's, Bm's etc etc etc

Everyone that was now trying to make a Range Rover basically plus Navaras et al.

They ALL got stuck at one point or another and ALL were pulled out by a 1959 Series if memory serves.

I'm sure this was either TG or 5th gear, and there were no more than 5 vehicles involved. Circa yr 1990 - so no X5's etc..

was there one were they tried a disco on the land rover test track going up a slope with rollers on to show off some Tc gadget,
And a series went up no bother
 
Hmm not the one i'm thinking of. This was a wide (say 25m) rutted grassy track running up beside a wooded area in the bum end of nowhere..
