Cheers, what have you done with your exhaust the middle box was fooked on it so iv used the middle one off my old diseisel and with out the back box it was too loud, I like the noise but theres got to be a happy medium as I leave my road at 6am don't want to be upsetting the neighbours too much, so iv but the back box back on and its not quite loud enough??

Remove the middle box and put a back box with a moving baffle on it so when you floor it you get the noise but driving normally it'll be nice

Like the idea and where would one find such an item? I was pondering the idea of some sort of a piece in the exhaust which would restrict exhaust flow and then with a flick of a lever from inside the cockpit would swivel around and let the gods roar in all they're glory!! Any other ideas?

For your idea the way to do that is simple, you can buy pre-made shunt valves and simply on the loud one have a straight pipe and on the other have a back box

Simple mate. Straight through centre pipe and 300tdi back box is just about perfect as far as cheapo systems go :)

Sounds like....BRUM...DOM...DOM..OMM

HTH :doh::rolleyes:

Yeah, Immensely. :doh: Smartarse.

at 28 I'm half deaf already from being too close to high power V engines. I don't want the remainder of my hearing to be lost to an engine that struggles to make 50bhp/litre. However I would like to be able to hear the damn thing in the first place....

Calm down dear!

It's a good sound for a free mod.

I assume 300 tdi and v8 back box is same design, afaik it's just a resonator, not a baffled box.

So, the noise you get is a decent drum drum at idle, and fair bwoar midrange and top end WOT you get a good BARRRRRRR but it is quite raspy and doesn't sound particularly kind of classy. Don't get me wrong it sounds great but it doesn't sound like a properly designed system does!

Urm, this is my old system:

I had a 3.9 V8(the one in my profile pic) and that had just a back box, and any opportunity i had too give it some beans, I did :) well it'd be rude not to

I like the straight through sound on other peoples but to live with day in day out and using for a family bus... I'm leaning down the leave the middle box in and taking the back box off route.
that way its just a case of throwing a back box on if I get annoyed with the noise.
Suppose if its that annoying I can just put louder stereo in :)
