That should all help it run a bit better, and that vac pipe won't have been helping.

it does seem to be running a lot better, the inlet manifold will be having another clean when my new thermostat comes. im not sure what the vac pipe was for but im certain it was causing problems
 
havent updated for a while...2k misfire seems to have cleared after cleaning the inlet manifold and egr valve. also been running it on texaco fuel instead of morrisons stuff.
the misfire at idle has got worse and today it decided that it would smoke its tits off, itll rev ok but dumps smoke out the back, so i unplugged one injector at a time, when i unplugged number 4 nothing happened so im assuming thats the one causing problems, all 4 are under warranty anyway so will get that sorted this week. ive had the renault thermostat here for weeks but havent had chance to fit it yet, will do it same time as injector. also going to clean the manifold and egr again, fingers crossed all will be good when thats done.
 
nice I wish mine had a heated front screen I now use shell V power and what a difference WOW mine did not like to go above 90 it used to struggle to get that but now 110 kl of course on a British motoerway

i havent tried v power yet, may give it ago soon. ill have to see if mine will do 110 ;)

I had a wish list when I bought my latest Freelander.
1st. Leather seats.
2nd. Heated front screen.
3rd. Automatic.
4th. As cheap as possible.
Everything else I could live with or without.
I use V Power too and it's worth the extra money.

i didnt realise mine had a heated screen till i got home with it haha.
my 2k misfire has stopped since ive been using texaco fuel but think ill give the v power a go once the new injector is fitted tomorrow.
 
yes! new injector fitted today along with the new thermostat in the top house. smoked its tits off when i started her up but cleared soon after, running a lot better temp is steady at half way and seems a lot smoother pick up through the revs. best its been since ive owned the car.

egr and inlet was black again so ive ordered a egr blanking kit and will dose it up with petrol and clean it again before fitting. ive heard things about an inlet mod, if anyone has info on this could they please fill me in :)

ok so since last update i had the freelander carbon cleaned, didnt hold out much hope for any improvements but thought itd be worth a go at 60 quid.
i was supprised to find that after the clean, seemed a lot more punchy at low rpm.

but....
it was short lived, clattering noise from before started again, struggling to start, smoking when cold. so... i ordered a diesel leak back tester from ebay for £20 and tested it today.

Some of those cheap misprinted Ebay bottles again. At a show recently I saw a trader trying to sell sets of spill pots with the same misprint on the bottles. Oddly he was asking twice the money than some Ebay sellers
 
haha yeah made my brain melt when i first saw it. but for £20 cant really grizzle about it, does the same job as the more expensive ones so im happy. injector is being replaced under warranty today so hopefully all will be well again.

Get them to change the engine oil and filter at the same time - if you suffered clouds of smoke' then you were getting unburnt fuel through - some of that is probably in the sump. Injectors can fail in many ways causing considerable diesel to cylinder leakage for example. I would not be happy at all with the old oil and filter in this situation.

ill be picking up new filter and some new oil whilst im there and will change it sometime this week, maybe this afternoon if i have time. its almost due an oil change now anyway so wont hurt.

also got a new power fold mirror coming either today or tomorrow as the other one is mashed and couldnt salvage it.
 
chenged the injector today under warranty, stuff actually happens now when i press the go pedal, slight clattering noise still there though, not sure what it is. also chnged the oil and filter same time.

Give the ecu time to adapt - there is usually a self adaptation feature - it has been running on three pots for a while :) - also put some good fuel in it for a while.
If it doesnt clear up in a couple of days take another look.
Also, I just realised the gaps in dates in this thread - can you recap the basic history here - you had injectors fitted at some time (as they were then under warrnanty ?) - why ? - I presume a fulls set ? - again why ? - then you had an issue with 1 only - is that correct ?

yeah will give it few days see what happens. been using tidy fuel for a few months now. may stick a fuel additive in it just to make sure the others are clean

basically, the previous owner bought it as a non runner for his dad, apparently it had an injector fault and replaced all 4 as a set. i then purchased it and after a while had a problem with number 4 injector ( was misfiring and smoking, struggling to start) so that got replaced under warranty. i had the carbon cleaning done as a bit of an impulse thing, i saw an advert online, someone local to me was doing it at a discounted price as hed had a cancellation, so thought id give it a go.
then last week or 2, similar symtoms as before started to develop (clattering noise, smoke, struggle to start, felt like it was running on 3 cylinders) so i bought a leak back tester and found injector 1 was returning more fuel than the other 3. so as the injectors are still under warranty, contacted euro car parts and they agreed to replace it. it now runs right again but there is still a slight noise. no smoke or difficult starting though.
