I just have to tell the wife that the freelander comes with L plates and a set of coveralls and a tool kit. But I'm sure she will love it.
 
Welcome to the land of K series bashing!:rolleyes: I had one a few years ago and it was superbly reliable and quite quick! Caught a few people out with it. I did however seek out a TD4 this time. ;-)
 
Update..

The new Front/Cat exhaust arrived yesterday.

Hopefully my coolant sensor and oil filter will arrive today and i can get it all back together and take it for a test run. Fingers crossed that there is now more knocking and the clutch has a better biting point. I will let you know how i get on :)
 
By coolant sensor do you temp or level :)? I'm thinking of fitting a coolant level sensor so just wondered.

Just a new standard coolant temp sensor.

I have been reading up on a EWP 80 and controller, but trying to convince myself to part with £250 :confused: but will read up more before i do decide.

A level sensor sounds like a good idea thou.
 
In further defence of K Freelanders, what better way to enter the world of Landy's for folks as want some fun and don't have the money for the more expensive ones. You can get a runner for a few hundred quid and we all end up doing the same fixes to them.

If the only thing people seem to moan about is the HGF, and there are ways and means to stop that happening, then what's left to moan about?



Thats my feelings on the K series also.

If you expect HGF, if you know how to replace it (lets face it , its a couple of hour job max), then there arent any nasty suprises. If things really do go tits up with your engine, you can get a replacement cheap and easy.

I would also point out, to all the people with Td4's, who look down on K series owners. K series dont have expensive injector faults, wiring connector issues, egr issues, turbo issues. Now these are all fixable, but they are all issues inate to the Td4 and can be expensive. :)

Well i have finally got all my parts through today and i have just finished putting her back together, i am just letting her tick over for a while as the battery warning light is on. then i will take her out for a test run.
 
With a level sensor in the expansion tank, was you thinking of adding something like one of theses switches?

Something like that yes, but for now there's no point as I know I'm going to loose coolant with every journey. I'm trying to find the leak but it's tricky - no puddle under the car. After a new inlet gasket, header tank and cap I'm left thinking it must be the hoses. I just drove to the peak district and back, I got four massive airlock induced overheats on the way there (very nasty, roadside heater matric bleeding) and then it overheated every time I went over 40mph all the way back. Stuck to B roads and pretended I was a tratter letting folks past, but he got us back. Time for some serious work now though :(.

There seems to be a few of us interested in the EWP - wonder who will take the plunge first ;). After today's fiasco I think it might be me.

So...what did it drive like?

The drive went well. No more knocking :) I left the car running and the temp sensor was saying it was normal and I waited longer to see of the fans kicked in. They did... Well one did. I'm unsure if there is a fault somewhere as they do come on fine with the A/C.

I think I will invest with a EWP and controller in the future but would like to see why the fans are not kicking in properly.

I hope you find your leak/fault Will.

Get a multimeter in there and see if the one fan isn't getting any juice :). Mine were going nuts earlier but it's actually quite surprising how effective they are when they kick in.

I am thinking that it is a problem with the relay, due to the fact that they both come on with the A/C. any thoughts on this?? i will check it all out again tomorrow and check what is gong on.

How did the clutch feel? Better biting point?

The clutch definatley feels better. Before I changed the master cylinder the clutch pedal had far to much free play i.e you could lift the peddle up, and when I looked up at the master cylinder, by the pedal I seen a clip on the master cylinder just swinging.. I then operated the clutch and seen the piston go in and the bush would nearly pop out when it was released.

Definatley better with the new one :)
 
After a wash a polish and some dye for the bumbers, its cleaned up well.

Today i think that i will try and investigate why the fans are not kicking in properly.

And the wife will be having here first lesson today :)

I would say probably about £400.

Ok well.... Everything is fine. After a while with the engine running the fans finally kicked in :) it sounded like the bloody front end was going to take off they where going that fast lol.

It did look odd thou as when they did jump to life the temp gauge was showing nothing?? After a while with the fans going I turned it off and then put the ignition back on and the gauge came back to life.. Odd but they work
