Today then, got the chassis rotated and upside down:

IMG_1233.jpg

Then cut the brackets off the old outriggers:

IMG_1235.jpg

Unfortunately the new bolts and spreader plates havent come in yet so cant put them on.

Then i sat down and made some phone calls. Both John and I are having our chassis's blasted and galvanised so i needed to get us some quotes.
Blasting is about £80-100 and galving at a local place is 80p per KG which includes the acid dip first. So all in its cheaper than i thought. Im guessing my chassis is about 150kg but i need to look it up and check as i dont have a clue. 2 people can lift it though so even 150 sounds excessive, but we shall see. But im pleased! The Mrs asked if id booked it in yet lmao I think she secretly likes Land Rovers :)
Then as i has a tyre getting low on the Disco, and a brand new matching spare i thought id get them changed over:

I was in good company. Almost my dream garage here too!

So disco is now back on matching wheels :) More tomorrow!

Looking good Drizz.... do you have any concerns that the chassis could warp when galvanized? I heard it mentioned on here that it can happen to bulkheads. Look forward to next pics :)

No. Its a common procedure and the people doing it are experienced with chassis' so im more than confident itll be fine....

So got the Chassis back yesterday, and theres not as many holes as i thought, so thats a result! Some thinning is obvious so will have that remedied, and the rear cross member is reasonable too, so no real need to replace that either. Heres some pics:

IMG_1410.jpg

So get these sorted, get the outriggers on then off for acid dip and galvanising :)

That looks very good.... is this just after being shot blasted? Looks like a light coating of primer or is this the bare metal? Bet you cant wait to start rebuilding! Keep the pic coming :)

So then progress:

The rear crossmember is fooked too:

Then getting the outriggers on:

IMG_1460.jpg

IMG_1461.jpg

Had to spread the rails to the right width to weld the outriggers to their supports just to be sure.
Then started cleaning the axles up:

IMG_1486.jpg

IMG_1487.jpg

It was doing its job because i found the part number lol

IMG_1488.jpg

And got the front axles first coat on:

IMG_1499.jpg

Ordered £305 worth of new rebuild bits for the axles too so once they turn up ill rebuild them :)
Then ill need to do it all again when i get my ARBs lol

So to update then:

You dont get much for over £300 of axle parts!

IMG_1502.jpg

IMG_1505.jpg

Painted my radius arms:

IMG_1508.jpg

And backing plates:

IMG_1509.jpg

Cleaned some more bits up ready for paint:

More during the week!

that looks sweet! iv to change my rear cross member soon so will paint chassis while tub is off, what brand is the orange paint you used??

Bit of an update. John came over and helped me build up the axles as far as we could, but i was missing some bolts (and yes i know i forgot to put the drums on before the hub lol)

IMG_1617.jpg

And today getting them 95% there:

IMG_1621.jpg

Anyone know if the hub nuts are torqued?

Right so got some more time on it after a hectic work schedule. Started making my rear crossmember.

Here you can see one piece prior to stripping and one piece done:

IMG_1686.jpg

Here you can see the yellow bits i cut my crossmember from and then the bit im using stripped of paint. You can also see the tube i have to make my rock sliders:

IMG_1688.jpg

Here you can see all 3 parts together where they will be welded:

IMG_1689.jpg

IMG_1690.jpg

Then i started shaping it:

IMG_1691.jpg

And marking out my towhitch, as the holes will be drilled and tubed for stength:

IMG_1692.jpg

Thats all for now im afraid, but its Billing this week, so shopping is planned!

Me too.... I couldn't judge the scale so I googled it. X-flex...., looks one very tidy bit of kit! I couldn't find a genuine set of springs or even Armstrong shocks for my 110 :(

Just caught this thread, nice project going on there, envious of the space to do all this!

Looking forward to more :D
