Hey peeps,

Not going to babble on too much, but a few of you may remember me for having a lifted freelander on muds. That was great but on pay and plays it had its limits, and was annoying not having a low ratio box.

Any hoo, In june this year I picked up a tidy bog standard Disco 1. Drives absolutely spot on and little to no play in the steering box. Also no major welding is needed as its been garaged most of it life.

So far I've starting the project by putting a steering guard, expedition bumper (no winch), and 235/75 muds.
I've been collecting parts to raise it including Terrafirma Pro Sport 2'' shocks and springs, 150mm extended brake lines, 50mm spring spacers, 2inch body lift kit.

I just need to fit the suspension and body lift before getting bigger tyres.

Nice one - good to see more disco's out there on Insa Traction Tracks, but not sure I'd call them mud tyres really...
Are you going to keep them at the standard 235/75 size or go up in size with the lift? I'm running 265/75's and find the relatively small (on LZ anyway!) size increase well worth it, but then I came from standard road 235/75's to begin with.
 
It was my daily so had the 235 Tractions on. But now its my weekend buid project. When it's lifted I'm looking at getting some 33's!
 
So this project is moving slowly forward, This month its had two new calipers, TRW Front pads, braided extended brake lines fitted (140mm longer), +2inch Terrafirma pro sport Shocks, 2inch spring blocks on Standard height HD springs.
Yes I know sounds strange but I was mis sold some springs on ebay as 2inch taller springs but they turned out to be normal height but Heavy duty. :rolleyes:
Next up is fit up my newly acquired winch, and actually purchase some 2inch lift springs.
Oh and almost forgot I've now fitted 285/75/16's which are mahooosive!!!!! They catch on full lock but spacers are on order. :cool:

Hope you are enjoying it. But you really don't need all that stuff. You can get 33" tyres on a stock heigh Disco.

Lifting them normally makes them less stable, reduce articulation, makes them ride worse, alters the steering geo and makes them drive worse on road and with a worse ride.

Lifting done right is a good thing and sometimes essential. But there is little need to lift one just to take it off road.
 
Hi guys, nice work on your disco taylonm, well i have a disco 1 with 2" lift ironman springs and foam shocks. Iam planning to get 32x11.5r15 on my dsico. Which would be better a 8 inch rim or a 10 inch one?

Hi there,
I would personally go 8" but I'm sure most people would say 10. I've ordered some brand new 8x16 modulars as they're so cheap to buy now. But no real reason why though.
