Hi. Meet my Discovery 1. Bought last week from an independent trader. 148,000 on the clock. Sold with new clutch and strengthened arm, new cam belt, tensioner, and full (ish) service. It starts first and every time and drives great. Smooth gears, no knocking or odd sounds, even the AC works! I didnt think £1900 was a bad buy!

It had a good clean from me when I got it but today is the first day I have been able to get under it and have a good look and sort out of the inevitable Disocvery 1 quirks. Im fairly new to all this so please excuse any naivety in my methods and lack of knowledge.

Chassis is in good order, but wings and boot floor have some rust issues that where tackled today with the help and advice of a good friend / knowledge pot.

Today saw the following;
Some attention to the rust on front wings
Rust patches in boot repaired
Kurust to boot floor and / OS foot well
Boot floor given 1 coat of hammerite
Boot foam liner hanging out to dry as it came with complimentary moisture
Handbrake tightened
Attempt to replace faulty reverse light switch but couldnt quite get to the bloody thing

Forthcoming jobs include
Hammerite foot well
Source replacement boot foam or equilent.
Re attach OS corner bumper bracket
Sry out inside of headlight
Grease hinges
Attach a light bar to front bumper

Have taken a few snaps......

Get rid of the foam under the carpet mate. They get wet hold moisture never dry out and eat the flooring then. So take it all out paint floor and the put carpet back in

Good shout. Holes got repaired and floor has had a monster coat of Hammerite. High as a kite by the time I got home.

Gonna stop off at a local riding store today and see about some rubber stable matting to cut and replace boot foam.

Better have deep pockets for stable matting, was real expensive last time I got it :(

i would avoid using rubber matting unless its perforated and breathable
as this will trap moisture under it just as the original stuff
does.

My under carpet foam has had two days of drying in the sun and boot floor has been sorted so hoping it will get me by until I can source some stable matting. De rusted and painted drivers foot well floor and did some more work on front wheel arches and headlight mount area. Had some help making replacement bracket so bumper now fully secure and so is the battery !!!!! Managed to pull out a random but quite important looking wire whilst putting battery back in so pub lunch delayed while sorting that out.

Didn't get round to having another bash at getting to reverse switch that needs replacing.

Few screws and some glue sorted out some lifting dash trim. Headlight lense dried out but not for long as evening drew on. Think I'm just gonna get a new one and prob some clear indicators at same time.

Put it all back together, cleaned the windows and added some obligatory "stickers".

All in all a good weekend well spent. Time for home, bath, top gear, Bed.

I ripped mine out, treated the floor, waxoyled the floor and fitted chequer plate on two runners.

Permission to do exactly that .....? The black chequer plate looks great and I'm opting for a black and blue colour all round with the blue body and black chequer plate exterior kit and rear door panel. Never though about doing same for foot wells

Ps. How do u make your photos appear that big on the threads instead of tiny thumbnails.

Sorry if that's a daft question and I'm missing the obvious.

Get yourself a Photobucket account, upload your images and then, from the box on the left that says Links to share this photo, copy the last box (IMG) and paste it directly into your thread.

NEVER RENAME OR MOVE YOUR PHOTOS as that would break the links to the photos!!

Right, today's the day my D1 gets a trip to local expert Landy garage, highly recommended guys that two good mates who own LRs have used for ages.

Need some help getting reverse switch off as looks like previous owner had bodged it. Plus not yet had it up on ramp to have a gander underneath, that's the bit I'm partly crapping myself about. But it drives great so hopefully nothing too scary will be found. I'm hoping to get it waxoyled underneath so want to get any dramas sorted first.

I'll take some snaps so you can all laugh or cry with my and post em later.

Oh, on subject of waxoyl, any thoughts on the guys at nene overland for such services.

Wish me luck.
:rolly:

I have to agree 100% get rid off the sponge ! All off it! Not just in boot
Front foot wells and rear foot well
Trust me or ull have the welder out alot

Well I've just come back from my friends local LR garage and came away with a few new jobs to get tackled.
1. Corroded brake pipe Top of list. Booked in for sorting.
2. Apparently engine has a not good knocking sound but was not in for long hence that will need further investigation I think.
3. Slight play in shock absorbers
4. Leak from brake vacuum pump
5. Lots of welding needed in important places.
6. Coolant leak poss from actual container itself.

Fook!
