Well bit the bullet and bought some shiney things off my mate.
No photos as yet bit picked up a pair of axles that have shock mounts realigned to be straight with a lift plus mounts raised 2"
Also a set of home made hench rear arms (made by a skilled fabricator)
And lastly a set of 35 x10.5.x16 Simex's :)

Basic plan is use the axles to build my rear locker get them all made up properly on the bench then swap onto the truck once it's running.

Talking of which still planning on dragging the Disco to my mates workshop next week to sort the gearbox. Which brings me to a question.
I'll be retaining the transfer box for my manual conversion so what seals, gaskets, etc should I be changing while everything is apart?
I've ordered a rear oil seal but it's not a genuine part it's Bear machine. Now worried I should fit a genuine part instead.
Also any recommendations on gearbox ad transfer oil would be greatly appricated.

And so it hopefully begins. Nothing exciting but borrowed a mates Disco and dragged mine out the bushes and a couple of miles down the road to another mates garage.

Missus wasn't particularly looking forward to this part as the truck didn't run so no heating or power steering and bugger all brakes lol.

But we made it in one piece so tomorrow going to spend a couple of hours degreasing the gearbox and starting the conversion. :)
Also shows off the 'new' Simex 35's. Gonna need more lift lol!

Aye aye captain

Hope you've got steam cleaner! In this weather degreasing is worth renting steam!

:( no steamer unfortunately.
Tbh it's a land rover so it's gonna leak again. Just wanna scrap the worst of the crud off to make it a little cleaner when it comes to fitting.
Been to my local lr independent this morning and collected some oil for the diffs, tranny and box. Also got a shiney new knob! :D

Cheers guys, realised when I looked under the bonnet.

Typical I need the transfer box not gearbox. So of course no issues with gearbox and then as go transfer box........

One snapped drain plug

and nice brown ooze coming out :(

Gay!

Well day one on the conversion is over. Not been amazingly productive I have to say.
Picked up new oils in the morning and heading over the garage.
By the time I'd degrease the gearbox the morning had gone and then we had the issue of trying to get the broken Disco up on the ramp.
End the end pushing it with a Frontera seemed to work.

and the end result for today is most things I'm the way removed and just the top bolts holding the box in place.

Tomorrow it's off to hopefully find a new sump plug along with prop bolts and various other odds and ends before getting to the garage and dropping the box off.
Fingers crossed the day is a little more productive.

Shagged!

How long has that watter been sweating in there??

Judging by the grief I had removing the props it appears to be stuck in diff lock.
Hasn't been changed in a while so could have been like that since last winter.
Left it to drain overnight, wondering what I can try to clean it out with in the morning.

When you it back together fill the transfer up
With kerosene

Leave the props off and stick it in gear to give it a good swill out

Give it a few flushes before going to ep90

or diesel mate

kero/paraffin is better but basically some oily solvent that will still lube the bearings etc (dont drive it with kero in!!!) but will wash out and flush out the water/**** much better

only takes 2 litres so youll get a good few flushes for not much money

Damn! I thought the crap that came out of my front axle when the pinion bearings went was bad!

Now seems clean in comparison..... :D

Good to see some progress mate keep it going! :)
